EXCL: White men are weaponizing meth against black and Latino queer people.

In a 3-part investigative series, I report from LA on the eruption of meth-fuelled abuse, sexual exploitation, rape, and slavery devastating the lives of LGBT people of color.

It began with 2 bodies being pulled out of an apartment building in W Hollywood. They were black gay men, killed by meth. The home was Ed Buck’s, a millionaire donor to the Democratic Party. The media focused on him: the rich white man. Queer people of color weren’t being heard.
I went to LA after Buck was arrested, to interview black and Latino LGBT people. What they told me was that innumerable white men are using meth against them during sex. That slave culture was being revisited. That their lives were in danger.
Some knew the men who’d been to Buck’s home. All had been abused in one way or another: lured in with meth, called the n-word, had their boundaries broken, been forced to inject more than they agreed. Been raped. Had guns put to their head.
Some became addicted. Many remained traumatized. As a reporter, all I knew was that the attention on Ed Buck has been at the expense of those without power or money. That America needed to hear the voices that have so often been drowned out.
Today, in the first part of a 3-part series, black queer men speak out about how meth, sex, and racism are combining to devastating effect, playing out plantation slavery dynamics in ways that have been hidden from view. buzzfeednews.com/article/patric…
