Happy to report that I just got an advance copy of the GOP's 2020 messaging, inspired by the CPAC theme of "Socialism vs. America." Love how they've done this film in the style of the 1950s, when America was great! archive.org/details/InOurH…
First we see a dour socialist telling us that they've got "the master plan" that will solve all of our problems. Because that's totally how today's Democrats think about governance--as a way of ending history.
After the people vote in the master plan, within weeks we get full communism. Because that's totally a live possibility in the American political system.
Next we see a family forcibly removed from their home so that two families can move in, because the state now determines where everyone will live and work. Because that's totally what American Democrats espouse.
Here's that family being forcibly transported in a government truck to their new, government-assigned housing. The nasty driver informs them that the churches will soon be banned, and that they better keep their traps shut.
Really, the choice Americans face is keeping what they've got or losing everything. The fact that the GOP's current messaging is difficult to distinguish from this 1950 propaganda film funded by a far right organization is not surprising, I guess.
The Cold War ended in 1989. This 1950 film is from the very early days of the Cold War. You'd think our political culture might have, ya know, evolved or matured a bit since then to adjust to new historical circumstances. Nah.
The late 1940s and early 1950s witnessed an outpouring of pro-capitalist and anti-socialist propaganda. Here's a thread with several such cartoons created by a Disney protege. They're like a window into Marco Rubio's mind.
Here's another one of those films that feels like it could just be recirculated today on Trump's Facebook page and on Fox News and no one would notice it was 70 years old.
