Many Republicans seem to think defeating Bernie would be a slam dunk. Some are even talking about Trump winning 40 states.

Three reasons this is incorrect:
1) Bernie will draw millions of non-regular voters to the polls (like Trump did)
2) While Trumps 46% is locked in...
...so is the 46% against him. The DEMs can nominate a person named "Corona Virus" and it would still be a tight election
3) Democrats mostly like Bernie and will rally around him if he's the nominee. The party has moved so far to the left that they don't view Bernie as extreme.
Don't forget that DEMs wanted to run against Trump. Don't forget that DEMs wanted to run against Reagan in 1980. And don't forget that DEMs wanted to run against Tommy Thompson in '86. Trying to guess who the weakest opponent will be is hard to do.
I think the talk about DEMs having a "never Bernie" movement is just wishful thinking by Republicans.
But if I were to guess who the weakest DEM would be against Trump and the one DEM candidate for whom there could be a "Never _____" movement, I would go with Bloomberg.
I base this on the recent MU Law School poll.
Check out the favorability ranking among DEMs for Bernie compared to Bloomberg. DEMs simply don't like Mike.
If there is a DEM that could trigger a "NEVER ___" movement it would be Bloomberg. Many DEMs view him as a rich, white, old, former Republican, who is a sexist and a racist. Most DEM voters would stick with him, but I could see some not voting for a guy who reminds them of Trump.
