the coalescing around biden is really nothing like the type of backroom deals struck in the past. those folks are hoping to sway the electorate from sanders and its up to voters. in the past, the voters were out of the equation completely.

also, nobody reads or studies history.
its fair to like or dislike people in the party going for biden but no, its just not the same as the party boss saying "take this guy off the ballot" etc.
the party bosses of the past would laugh at this comparison. if they were running things someone would quietly go to sanders, show him some pictures or documents, make it clear to him that he should drop out and then everyone endorses biden. thats just not what is occuring.

i dont care how much you may love or loathe sanders, these people - frum, rick wilson, jennifer rubin, bill kristol, etc. are *the worst*. theyre the ones who built the pile that trump stands on. they built it with reagan and bush and with aid from mccain and romney.

I've spent some time tonight actually answering the question of why Warren would stay in, & why her supporters want her to. it's a bit tedious to keep doing one-off, so here fwiw is the thing. (note carefully, I'm not offering to debate anyone about it)
Warren is running on certain ideas & policies that she believes represent the best way to make America better after what's happened in recent years & decades. they're subtly different from Sanders's, & her supporters prefer either her emphasis or her approach. start there.
the best way for Warren to get her agenda implemented is obviously to get the nomination & ultimately win the presidency; that's not off the table yet (the "no path" talk is presumptuous & premature - it may make more or less sense in a week or two, but for now it's silly)

So, I ran across a retweet of the below tweet and it immediately raised flags. Puffing up a witness has a reason, so decided to go look for the documentation behind it, since it had a direct quote. Didn't take long - few minutes and NPR coughed it up (will link at the end)./1
About puffing someone up - the reason is to try to give the person credibility, their views more weight than they should be given, and to set them above someone they are in disagreement with. In this case, also to elicit support due to his medal./2
In the case of the tweet, it is immediately followed by the statement "speaking out against the command-in-chief." (you're suppose to gasp here I think)

Then "the reason" is given - people kept telling him he needed to speak up (be sure to ignore other possible reasons)./3
