The following thread is a summary of the just released report by @McMasterU of Ontario's canceled basic income experiment which utterly destroys any belief that it wasn't succeeding at the time of its cancellation. What @fordnation did was unforgivable.

Overall health improved for 79.4% of basic income recipient respondents.

Mental health improved for 82.8% of them.

86.1% reported feeling less stress.

83.4% reported feeling less depressed.
78.4% of basic income recipients reported feeling less angry during the pilot.

Think hard about what this single statistic could mean for the population as a whole and the impact it could have on crime, violence, and even how people vote and what media they consume. #YangGang
86.2% of basic income recipient respondents reported a more positive outlook on life during the pilot.

46% improved their housing situations.

59.7% were better able to pay off their debts.

65.7% reported an improvement in their family relationships.
78.9% of basic income recipients who responded to the survey reported greater motivation to find a better job as a result of the basic income.

61.5% found that their basic income made it easier to look for jobs.

26.2% used their basic income to go back to school or retrain.
A common assumption is that UBI will function as a wage subsidy, allowing employers to pay less. Turns out the opposite is true. Over 1/3 of survey-responding recipients used their basic income to find better paying jobs. Additionally, workplace conditions improved for 31%.
If it weren't already obvious just how much UBI would save money on healthcare, look at these responses:

32.7% reported less need to see a doctor.

37.4% reported less need for ER visits.

82.7% reported being better able to afford medications.

Dental care improved for 74.1%.
50.4% of basic income recipient survey respondents reported being more able to afford mental health services.

56.8% experienced less pain.

71.3% experienced feeling less tired.
Tobacco consumption decreased among users during the basic income pilot, as over half of the respondents reported either cutting down or quitting altogether. Basic income also reduced alcohol usage with just under half of the respondents cutting down or quitting altogether.
73.7% of basic income recipient survey respondents reported becoming more physically active as a result of basic income.

80.8% reported more self-confidence.

Among parents, 68.8% reported improvements in their kids' well-being.
68.6% of basic income recipient survey respondents reported skipping fewer meals.

Among those who used food banks, 67.8% reported using them less often thanks to basic income.

85.2% reported eating more fruits and vegetables.

86.2% reported maintaining a healthier diet.
Among those who'd been using payday loan before they started receiving basic income, 90.7% reported using payday loan services less often after they started receiving basic income.

75.3% reported being better prepared for emergencies.

83.9% relied less on friends/fam for money.
Thanks to having basic income, getting around independently was made easier for 78.3% of respondents.

Many interviewees felt a certain collective responsibility to give back to their communities out of gratefulness for basic income. 48.1% began volunteering more as a result.
75.7% of respondents used their basic income to engage in more activities like gardening.

69% were able to spend more time with their families and loved ones.

74.4% spent more time in general socializing with friends, family, neighbors, and community members.
72.6% of respondents reported using their basic income to devote more time to unpaid personal interests. One self-employed person even decided to run for political office after asking himself, “Who better to represent the common person than someone who is poor?" #YangGang
Conclusion: "These findings show that despite its premature cancellation by an incoming government that reneged on its electoral promise to see the pilot through, basic income recipients benefitted in a range of ways. In this sense, the pilot was nothing short of successful."
