Another potential side effect of quarantines and travel restrictions: do Uber and Lyft survive?
I'm on record as saying that there is a viable business there for one, and possibly both, of the firms, though smaller than it looked when they finally stopped subsidizing rides. But they haven't gotten there yet. Neither firm is profitable.
Travel is a huge portion of their business, especially outside maybe 5 metro areas in the US. So is "going to small rooms to get drunk around a lot of other people".
They can't make their living on substituting for someone's bus commute in Durham, NC.
I can tell a story where this is good for them, but I am skeptical. And if it does hit them hard, how long can they burn cash waiting for things to settle down? What investors want to put more money in to finance that burn rate? Which banks want to offer them bridge financing?
