This is true but I also still think that, much like Bernie, this is why she hasn’t performed as well as conventional wisdom holds she should with POC. The fight against 1% corruption is simultaneously a fight against the pervasive bigotry of the White, GOP voting majority too.
@StephenMCarter4 I think the 1% message may have hit a saturation point in the primary around the time that all the POC got swept off the stage by the disparate sway of the White candidates’ supporters preferences & their wallets, so it became both a contradiction and an erasure.
@StephenMCarter4 I think Liz is dealing w/fallout from a campaign season full of what shrinks call “empathic failures”, but they mostly went unrecognized by everyone but the folk she needed to remain viable long-term. The Liz/Kamala moment re: FB/Zuck v. Twitter/Trump hurt.🥴
Wow I was tweeting this not knowing that she suspended her campaign. 😱 Now that I know, everything above still stands. That HAS to be why she wasn’t able to make the case to the Obama/Clinton coalition.
Another thing #WeTriedToTellYall: Making strong alliances with Bernie the Alienator and his arrogant, willfully ignorant and emotionally abusive Bros is a microaggression that inadvertently makes you an unsafe, unreliable ally even if you don’t want to be or think it’s happening.
We may never know why Liz decided it was wise to sign a non-aggression pact with Bernie the Alienator and craft her fiscal expertise as the softer side of Bernie (read alienate the Obama/Clinton coalition) before they headed into the D primary, but I know today was foreseeable.
This is also why Liz’s Bern proximity appears dangerous/unreliable/unsafe to some marginalized voters. Though her plans are more intellectually honest than his, a portion of her coalition isn’t alienated by bigotry/misogyny, Bernie, the Bros, or the Alt Left Southern Strategy™️.
I know how sad/infuriating it is to see a fave leave the stage, but the folk who are consoling themselves with the idea that she “took Bloomberg down” need to re-evaluate what’s happened b/c Bloomberg left the race with more POC support and momentum than she did (b/c of Bernie).
I know the MSM convinced a lot of folk that Bloomberg and his ads/💵 were such a gigantic threat to everybody in all the same ways, but 1) he wasn’t even on the SC ballot (obvi) 2) the Black voting majority was NEVER going to really put an architect of Stop & Frisk on the throne.
The whole time that the narrative™️ was convincing folk that Liz needed to take him down b/c he and the 1% were genuinely threatened by her plans/movement, Black voters were aware that 1) down ballot Ds just needed the cash 2) our majority was gonna vote for Obama’s VP anyway.
And this is precisely the point where Bernie the Alienator, his outlier POC surrogates and his overall terrible influence/fuckery come into play again. Bernie’s gospel convinced Liz that the crusade against the 1% would work for her if she marketed it to the base in a softer way.
Now that the very declarative SC/Super Tuesday results are in, it’s essential for ppl to understand the HUGE difference between a) Bloomberg dropping out b/c he was only there to 1) box out Bernie for Joe 2) read Trump for filth 3) GOTV for POC vs. b) Liz not swaying the D base.
Liz not swaying the D base (as evidenced by garnering less support/votes from POC/reliable allies than a billionaire architect of Stop & Frisk who wasn’t really trying to win b/c he wasn’t on the SC ballot) has everything to do w/her coalition appearing unsafe b/c of Bernie/Bros.
People still aren’t considering the reality that Liz didn’t have a Super Tuesday strategy, let alone a viable 50 state strategy for Nov b/c she followed Bernie and the MSM down the rabbit hole of chasing the WWC in the heartland for caucuses that he’s already learned how to skew.
Receipts on Bernie the Alienator’s rabbit hole, destined to fail on purpose Democratic primary strategy that also didn’t work for Liz (because he’s NOT really a Democrat) aka the Alt Left Southern Strategy™️. #BernedOut 😒 #SouthernStrategy101 #NonaggressionPactFail
It was WAY TOO late for a state as large as Texas and not anywhere big enough to compete with what Beto and Kamala began in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Also not enough to compete with Bernie or Joe’s name recognition, or Bloomberg’s late entrance with mountains of cash.
Joe maintaining a distinction as the most reliable White ally on the stage and Bloomberg dropping out despite making a marginally legit case to POC plus immediately endorsing Joe indicates the softer side of Bernie didn’t work for Liz any better than full Bernie works for him. 🙃
Probably so but the ability to actually make friends with Bernie the Alienator is alienating to ALL the people he’s alienated. It doesn’t assist with the coalition building that’s necessary to win a Democratic primary up against the juggernaut of the Obama/Clinton coalition.
Very much agreed and this circles me right back to why I think attacking Bloomberg more than she did Bernie actually hurt Liz with the D base. He got a little ally cred by funding anemic POC campaigns that are usually the LAST to get love and attention from the larger system.
