Within mammal species, females live longer than males. Within bird species, males live longer.

One factor (but not the only one): which sex is homogametic. Female mammals are XX; male birds are ZZ.

Lifespan differences between the sexes cannot be explained wholly by sex chromosomes, however. In species where females are homogametic, they live ~21% longer than males; when males are homogametic, they only live ~7% longer.

COVID-19 math:

If

X = # of deaths, and
Y = total # of infected people,

Then

X / Y = fatality rate.

If Y is wrong because govt’s aren’t testing or reporting, then the rate will also be wrong: it will seem to be higher than it actually is.
" ‘Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died,’ [the] WHO Director-General said.”

Note “reported.” This is not an accurate total count of infected people.

Why would governments under-report cases? Maybe they don’t have the capacity to test widely, so they legitimately don’t know. Maybe they don’t want to appear to be a center of pathogenicity, and are lying. Maybe they don’t know because many cases are mild or asymptomatic.

Women don’t ski in long, flowing dresses because it would be dangerous and stupid to do so. But a man does it, and objecting indicates some sort of failure “as a woman who wants to help rewrite gender norms”?! FFS.

PSA: If you want to date a man who communicates well and acknowledges his emotions, you do not need to date a man who dresses like a lace-and-tulle-loving woman on her wedding day.

There are plenty of good men who can communicate while not wearing dresses. Seriously, people.
If I’m being totally honest, one of the reasons that this story irritates me is that, yes, the dude looks ridiculous in that dress, but also, *anyone* would look terrible in that dress. It’s not just impractical; it’s a really ugly piece of clothing.

For me, the real issue in the #trans #GRA reform is #maleviolence against #female & trans. I note #transmen seem to be absent from discussion. They obvs don't present as #women so don't use women's spaces. But they can't draw attention to themselves as trans because... (1/2)
(2/2) in a male space they would run the risk of attack by men who would see their bodies as still female. I can't find stats on transmen being violent, or female violence on transmen. I guess there will be some, but very small no's. The problem is male violence. #patriarchy...
So we need to be looking at #male #violence and how/why our society raises #boys to think violence is a way of dealing with the world. NB I know this is a generalisation and not all males are violent & not all females are peaceful!
