Maybe men in country don't do "strident" (arguable). But "strident" is a hallmark of women in country music. It ain't all just about "standing by your man" (ironically, The Dixie Chicks included a cover of "Stand By Your Man" as the B-side on their "Goodbye Earl" single). 5•

THREAD: 2020 shows how hard-fought @HillaryClinton's rise was. To be taken seriously, she couldn't just take men's resumé-building path. She had to *live* in the WH first & juggle dual roles as a smiling First Lady+policymaker, & later had to work for another president. •1
For Bill Clinton, being a little known governor was enough to be president. For Hillary, merely being an effective senator with a strong legislative achievement record wasn't enough. She had to humble herself & lose to a man who'd been senator half as long w/no WH experience. •2
Once more, Hillary had to keep working for the White House to prove herself, building her resumé and policy chops as secretary of state, during which time she traveled more than any past SOS had in four years. It was paying off; by 2013, she had a 69% favorable rating. •3

Neither FDR nor LBJ considered themselves "Democratic socialists" or anti-establishment.
This will only shock & outrage you if your definition of "establishment" is something other than "an established order of society: such as
a group of social, economic, & political leaders who form a ruling class."

In otherwise, those capable of exercising power (ex: LBJ & FDR).

No. The opening text of the film makes this clear:

"Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered, a civilization gone with the wind..."
It's highly doubtful Trump ever sat all the way through Gone With the Wind.

But as a lover of film, and a Mississippian who really appreciates a lot about GWTW (as well as the deserved modern criticisms of it), I think a New York billionaire pining for the Old South sure is odd.
But here's the thing: Trump pines for the days when films like Gone With the Wind won best picture, instead of a South Korean film?

South Korea is a US ally.

The Confederacy was not.

While I'm at it, Russia isn't either.

#NEW I wrote about "electability" and the 2020 Democratic primary for the paper this week. We combined political science and polling data and found that a moderate Dem with strength among working-class whites has the best chance against Trump.

The 2020 election is likely to be close. Trump's approval rating & GDP growth suggest that he'll win about 49% of the two-party vote, per our modeling. He's clearly competitive, especially when Democrats need to win the popular vote by about ~2.5pts to win the electoral college.
So the "electability" of the candidates is a particular concern for Democrats.

So what do we know about who is more likely to win general elections?

The data we have (from @VividSeats) is truly incredible. In every county, we have a record of the share of concert/etc ticket sales that fall into each genre in 2015/19. Here's that map (with each county scaled for population). Cities like rap/hip hop. Rural areas like country.
The music genre that most correlates with Republican vote share is, as you might expect, country music. A preference for "New Age" music (whatever that is) and Rock are also "red". Rap, Hip Hop & R&B, as mentioned, are "blue" music—as is liking alternative artists or Latin music.

- 50% of registered voters support impeaching POTUS. 39% oppose. !! +11 is up from -12 in July. !!
- 36% of Indies and 11% of Reps support impeachment

- 51% of RVs support impeachment AND removal from office, 39% oppose
- 67% of registered voters say that “abuse of power” warrants removal from office
- 68% of RVs say the same about obstruction of justice
- 71% of RVs say that perjury warrants removal
- 59% of registered voters say they believe it is illegal for the president “to threaten withholding foreign aid to a country if that country refuses to take action that benefits the president”
- 69% of RVs say it would be inappropriate for a president to do this
