FWIW neither candidate is close to my ideal but I think they could both win the general election and would put policies and people in place that would be a net positive for the country.
Neither man would wave off a terrorist warning, neither man would make a pandemic about their ego and tv ratings.
I personally believe in a very progressive social policy with a strong national security to keep us, our allies, and the world safe. The closest I've had to that was Obama and even then it wasn't always precisely everything I wanted.
And especially on national security I know I'm in the minority on the left. And that's ok. I am not changing my views but in a two party system I simply can't afford to take my ball and go home.
I'll make noise when I think Bernie should blow something up. I'll bitch and moan if Joe's too timid on health care. But I'd rather deal with yelling at them than dullards actually trying to hurt and kill the weak and desperate like we have now.
