@tadrow Apropos of nothing: the "stead" in "homestead" is a strong, fine word:

"Old English stede 'place, position; standing, firmness, stability, fixity,' ... from [Proto-Indo-European] *steti-, suffixed form of root *sta- "to stand, make or be firm." etymonline.com/word/stead
@tadrow Your homestead is a place to make a stand. It also has a connotation of "area of responsibility." I like that: you have your place; that's your area of responsibility. Take care of what's in front of you.
@tadrow It reminds me of Ecclesiastes, which advises that the whole secret of life is simply: eat and drink; love the wife of your youth; wholeheartedly do the work God has put in front of you.

Be stead-y.
@tadrow (I constantly look up etymologies when I'm reading and realize that a commonplace word may have profounder meanings. This time it was from Terry Pratchett, who referred to a witch's "steading.")
@tadrow What year was your family's first homestead, and what year was the second?
