Just wait until Republicans begin aggressively campaigning for the general election by reminding people of how much of America's time and money the Dems wasted on Impeachment Theater
The poll bumps for Trump and the GOP are more than just the usual "you shot at the king and missed" blowback for Dems. Those who paid attention to Impeachment Theater saw the worst of Dem arrogance and deceitfulness on display. It left a lasting negative impression.
We saw a parade of entitled Deep State bureaucrats marching forth to rail against an elected president for daring to challenge "their" policies. They postured as the last line of elite defense against the stupid voters. It was noticed and will be remembered.
This came amid a worldwide revolt against corrupt and incompetent elites who feel no great sense of duty to the people who elect them, no loyalty to their national populations. "Investigating card-carrying members of the elite for corruption is WRONG!" was not a winning message.
Impeachment Theater also ran afoul of the old "it's the economy, stupid" maxim. Voters generally tend to see prosperity as a sign that the system is working fairly well. "No, it's really a disaster behind the scenes, trust us" is a tough sell, especially using foreign policy.
Frankly, Americans are sick and tired of being told they're wrong to put their national interests ahead of endless foreign entanglements. They're rejecting everything from endless wars and open-borders immigration madness to pouring their money into corrupt foreign aid sinkholes.
That's one reason Impeachment Theater rubbed so many the wrong way. We're supposed to throw away prosperity, unleash mad chaos in D.C., and upend our lives because some bureaucrats think we need to keep throwing billions at Ukraine with no questions asked?
Impeachment Theater contrasted two visions of Washington and the world. Clearly a sizable number of persuadable voters preferred the Republican vision to the Democrat one, while committed Repubs were far more energized by the outcome than disappointed Dems.
It might even have had some effect on the Dem primary. The "anybody could beat Trump, let's swing for the socialist fences" excitement evaporated. Dems wearily trudged back to the establishment's "electable" veteran candidate. It feels like surrender, not victory.
The final joke is that Impeachment Theater did tremendous lasting damage to Joe Biden, but Dems have forgotten that - because they blotted impeachment out of their minds, knowing it was a disaster for them. It's now a graveyard they have to whistle past. /end
