That was the least objectionable speech I’ve heard from Sanders this election cycle.
Don’t get me wrong. It was still littered with narcissism.

- The people who like me are more important the people who don’t
- The people voting against me are doing so for illegitimate reasons
- I control the conversation
- I must agree I deserve to lose before I accept it
It was just better than his 2016 version:

“Since you didn’t elect me mayor, I will burn down your stupid, corrupt village.”

Simplified, what the federal government did yesterday was make available $1.5 trillion dollars to buy back the government’s own debt from banks.

It is sort of like offering to buy back your own mortgage.

You wouldn’t be “handing out” anything.

If you said to your bank “Hey, I owe you a lot of money which you can collect in the future or I can give you cash for it now” you aren’t *giving* them anything.

Paying your bills faster isn’t a handout.

Bernie either doesn’t know what he is talking about or is lying on purpose for political purposes.

Neither is super helpful in the midst of a crisis where we already can’t trust the rhetoric out of the president.

Sat down with my mom this morn to talk about corona preparedness. She was widowed years ago. Lives on a modest fixed income.

I was trying to console her about not watching her retirement fund. “Long term, things come back, mom.” I said.

She started crying...

Told me it had already wiped out years of future withdrawals.

I tried to brightside it by pointing out that this too shall pass.

She buoyed a little bit but this is weighing on her with an existential dread. A weight I cannot lift.

The crisis is the crisis. Public health is paramount. We have vulnerable lives to protect and people to care for.

In parallel though, we also have real people’s real lives being plunged into deep distress and anxiety due to nothing other than Trump’s incompetent mishandling.

The Fed just threw half a trillion dollars at the market today to try to prop up stocks and the market just gobbled it up and went back to going down.

That’s $500 billion dollars.

For scale, Obama injected $80 billion and saved the entire auto industry.
I am too ragey to butcher an explainer on this but the Fed didn’t ‘bail out’ anyone. They didn’t give away money. They threw a half-bil at buying back their own debt - which is supposed to free up cash for debtholders.

This was not a giveaway. It was a failed stimulus.

I'm already nestled in the Hamilton County Commission chambers for today's meeting. Commissioners are expected to to vote on the FY 2020 county budget today - or an alternative.

The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. but chambers already had about two dozen folks in here when I arrived about 15 minutes ago. I've seen several educators mixed in the crowd including some of @hamcoschools chief officers and principals.
The @TimesFreePress has covered this eyar's budget process extensively since Superintendent Bryan Johnson unveiled the schools $443 million budget request in April.
