As we learn to cope with the realities & the pause that #COVID19 presents us, I’m reminded of the power of being still. It’s an odd thing to do these days but there’s beauty in it. Like the musical notation of the fermata which adds beauty to the song and provides time for pause.
The trick is to make the most of the pause and enjoy the moment of being still. We may need to pause from gathering big but there is no requirement for social distancing to keep us apart. When we look back on this extra time we have been given, will we remember binge watching,…
… spending time on social media or wasting time? Maybe we need to use this gift of time to do something extraordinary. Like spending more time with family, friends and loved ones. Or doing something for those people if it’s not possible to do something with those people.
Maybe that’s all a part of taking a pause. A part of being still. When we are still, we notice the things around us that matter most. We turn down the constant noise and drone of life that drowns out the still small voice that says, “This. This is what life is all about.”
So turn that up. Turn up the voice that says look for more. Make the most of this moment. Do something amazing with this gift of the pause. We rarely get to do it in life. Like the fermata note that hangs tenuously near the audience as the sound reverberates through the air, ...
... there might be a few moments of stress. Moments where anxiety gets the best of us. Or we fear it might not work out the way we want it to. But just like that musical note that is reverberating, we begin to see that as something tenuous hangs on, there’s beauty in that.
We see what matters most. Faith. Family. Friends. The simple things in life. The fact that most of us have a roof over our heads, food in our bellies, and more than enough to share with those in need. Take a moment as you pause, to look around. There’s more to life than you.
Look at the needs around you. How can you help? How can you equip, engage, encourage & empower those nearby to make it through? Think about it. Then do it. As the world around us hoards and hides, bravely serve & share. This. This is what life is about.
Then once we get through this, which we will, take a look at how it went. Be reflective. See what worked. Hold on to that. Enjoy that feeling. And keep doing it. Place a giant fermata over that part of your life and play that part for the world to hear.

Next step: As I listen to people & see a @Twitter feed full of despair, Let’s create a list of #hopeful things people did or saw during their #coronavirus #fermata to help #BeStill. Add what you did in a comment to this thread & retweet with #fermata. Let’s change the narrative!
