On Wednesday, I was coming back from Madrid, where cases have been growing exponentially in the last few days. I started feeling sick on my way back, feeling my lungs collapsing, so I did the reasonable thing, I called 1177 first. 2/8
Here comes the first surrealistic thing. They tell me that Spain is not a risk zone (It was #5 by then already), and Sweden still only counts China, Iran and Italy, so they assume it is impossible it is covid19, and send me to a medical center, opposed to all common sense. 3/8
In the medical center they treat me quite well, but again they repeat that Spain is "not a risk zone" according to Swedish guidelines, and because of that, they proceed to do the test, but tell me that I can continue having a normal life, go to work, and see people. 4/8
Luckily, I have more common sense than that, and I stayed at home since then, with at least 10 people waiting to hear from my results because they were in contact with me, or work colleagues waiting to see if they have to count on my absence for a longer period. 5/8
They told me that today, Friday, I would get my results, and the day went by, attached to my phone, and nothing came. And I can just think... If they told me I can do a normal life, how many got the same indications? How many are waiting for results walking around in society? 6/8
It is time for Sweden to take measures and start taking this seriously, as the rest of Europe has been doing. Schools should be closed, work from home should be encouraged, if not, obliged when possible. And people should be told, once and for all, to stay at home! 7/8
In the meantime, symptoms persist, and I will keep waiting, self-quarantined at home, as they should have recommended me.
