Suddenly racism is OK, eh? Instead of sick vs healthy, it's about nationalism, it's about demonizing people from certain countries, it's about closing borders to protect "our kind". Where are all the outraged voices screaming about tolerance now? Silent. #hypocrisy
It's a fascinating look at people's REAL views on others. When suddenly it's life and death and people are scared, now "otherism" is acceptable. "LOCK DOWN THE BORDERS!" Doesn't matter if families are separated, lives are drastically altered.
Because of course a little practical logic is simply too much to ask, so when it really comes to drastic times requiring drastic measures, clearly the vast majority of people default to the most ignorant, base animal instinct, which is "only our kind are allowed".
If you are in favor of closing borders based on race or nationality rather than on symptoms of sickness vs health (kudos to Singapore for at least attempting a rational approach), you have lost ALL moral high ground in any discussion going forward related to race / nationalism.
I am a citizen of planet earth, as are we all. It's not about Chinese, or Italian, or Iranian, or American - it's about human. Or so everyone CLAIMS, until their true nationalistic colors come out like they are now.
In just a few weeks a virus has done more damage to global relations than any politician could have done in multiple terms - because the virus has brought out everyone's TRUE views on other people who look and speak different than them. Frankly speaking, it's disgusting.
It's often said that if aliens attacked earth, that might be the only thing which could unify us - but right now the opposite is more accurate. The world is divided on national lines, despite how illogical it is considering most problems are citizens bringing covid-19 home.
But hey, best of luck to everyone. Hopefully your flag-waving helps to stop the virus. But hopefully you'll also eat some nutrient-rich bugs and get some sunshine while you're waving your pretty flags, because a strong immune system is probably a better defense than your anthem.
