I have been supportive of most government action during this crisis, but today’s announcements and statements have been ambiguous about testing strategy, pubs and entertainment.
The Number 10 communications operation which proved so astonishingly effective during the referendum and 2019 general election seems increasingly inept at governing In a crisis. People do not understand the reasoning behind decisions not the overall strategy as it evolves
The prime minister’s press conference today was muddled, and Matt Hancock was unable to explain why community testing had stopped nor why pubs are still open once being declared unsafe to visit.
I will continue to support actions that are based on clear evidence and expert advice, but need also to ask the tough questions which Matt Hancock today encouraged all MPs to keep asking
