It’s bad there. Total lockdown. No one allowed outside without special permission. Police enforcing it, but people taking it seriously, staying in. Check in with neighbors daily, but briefly /1

The case number doubles every day. The hospitals are overloaded. Converted hotels etc being used for overflow patients. Everyone knows someone.
Doctors and nurses are working almost non-stop. Everyone knows someone there too. What they face is grim. /2

But every morning, early, when the shift change happens at the hospitals, some of the doctors & nurses leave, walking wearily down this block, & the people on this street wake up, go out, applaud them until they are past, out of sight, because what they face is impossible... /3
And they don’t stop.
They are the frontline, and no one can help them, so they are cheered as they walk alone down the street so that they know everyone understands.
