French President Macron a not so big fan of Socialism just suspended rent, utility bills, taxes and promised €300B in fiscal support to companies that would lose business during this crisis. He captured it right - WE ARE AT WAR! And when at war, Humanity Trumps Market Forces.
What this crisis teaches us is that Demand & Supply has a limit and the Market is not absolute. When it comes to the need to protect & preserve humanity, market forces must give way to human force. The laws of demand & supply can no longer apply because things are no longer equal
This is why proponents of capitalism who hitherto had looked in the faces of nations (who in reality were at war with Poverty) and told them to end subsidies or social progs aimed at helping their poor bcos it wasn't "mkt friendly" are falling over each other to suspend the mkt.
This is truly a unique time to reflect on many things esp the price we place on human life. At the core of all economic decisions must be this basic question - WHAT IS THE VALUE OF HUMAN LIFE? If the answer is "Inestimable", then I dare say, no cost is too high to preserve it.
