Karnataka may well have had the highest number of women rulers in the pre-modern era, especially in the Chalukyan period. I already count three women rulers in the Chalukyan period. Women were even generals (Akkadevi) who crushed rebellions, and got the title `Ranabhairavi'
The first is Pulakeshi's daughter-in-law, Vijayamahadevi, who ruled as regent for her child for a significant amount of time. The second is Mairaladevi, who was the governor of Banavasi during the time of Someswara II. The last is Akkadevi, sister of Jayasimha, ruling Kisunadu.
