This thread about how to convict Trump of homicide for his mishandling of #COVID19 is deeply disturbing.
It inflames people's misery and fear in bad situations, telling them that their suffering is someone else's fault, and implying they'll feel better if that person is punished.
This sort of scapegoating is all too common in our society. It has led to the unconscionably long sentences in our criminal laws. And it has contributed to our current tendency to try to fix all of our problems through punishment rather than through other means (like spending).
I am also very surprised to see @glennkirschner2 stating (bragging?) that, as a prosecutor, he "was always on the lookout for novel ways to apply homicide liability." He is basically saying he tried to be as creative as possible to make sure more people served long sentences.
Let's be clear: The Trump administration has mishandled the response to this virus.
But trying to punish Trump does absolutely nothing to prevent or mitigate the harm that the country is facing right now.
There are literally hundreds of other things that we should be doing right now to combat this pandemic and to avoid the next one.

Criminal punishment should not be a part of that conversation. At all. /end
