COVID-19 (coronavirus) UPDATE THREAD [March 18]:

At 5:00 p.m. today, March 18, I issued a Declaration of Public Health Emergency, Order #4.

The declaration takes effect at 11:59 p.m. tonight.

The declaration calls for restaurants to cease indoor operations and closes businesses that could enable extensive public gatherings. See attached graphic for list.

There are provisions that allow restaurants to continue to offer drive-thru, drive up, delivery and curbside service.

Grocery stores, pharmacies, and retail establishments are allowed to remain open so that you may continue to procure whatever goods you may need.

TESTING COUNTS:

25 total positive COVID-19 cases in Bexar County. 8 travel-related. 4 close contact. 13 under investigation

@SAMetroHealth has conducted 135 tests. 111 negatives. 24 positives. 1 positive test has been confirmed by a pvt. lab.

NEW TESTING FACILITY:

We have opened a new facility at Freeman Coliseum. Testing is available for those who have been pre-approved by a doctor, first responders, healthcare workers and @VIA_Transit drivers. The facility is operational and has already conducted testing.

You no longer need a travel history or contact with a known positive patient to qualify for testing.

If you're experiencing symptoms, stay at home and call your primary provider for the next best steps. Do not go to the emergency room...

COVID-19 UPDATE THREAD [March 19]:

Earlier today, Metro Health confirmed Bexar County's first cases of community transmitted COVID-19.

This means that the patients in question were exposed to COVID-19 from an unknown source.

This is not an unexpected occurrence, as the CDC's testing qualifiers have become less restrictive. Testing "capacity" is not an issue for San Antonio or Bexar County. If your doctor recommends a COVID-19 test, you will be tested.

When you wake up to see your governor & mayor are holding a presser at 9:45am to update #coronavirus. 90,000 people worldwide have it, 3,000 have died. Florida declares a public health emergency. 88 cases in America. But we barely test. If you don’t test them, they are not sick.
Italy struggles to contain it, 34 people have died in Italy from #coronavirus, 1,577 have it. In China, 208 new cases reported. 700 MILLION PEOPLE are in lockdown. Over the weekend, new cases in Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, New York, Florida. Two deaths.
In Iran, 66 people have died. 1,500 infected there. India, Iraq and Iceland report further cases. 60 countries are dealing with #coronavirus. Hard to keep track of where it is around the world. And, it is expected the stock market will have a volatile week, like last seek.

I have decided to reconvene the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee on the new #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) tomorrow to advise me on whether the current outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.
Most of the 6000+ new #coronavirus cases are in #China – just 1%, or 68 cases, have been recorded to date in 15 other countries. But some person-to-person transmission in 3 countries outside of 🇨🇳 has been recorded. This potential for further global spread is why I called the EC
The vast majority of new #coronavirus cases have been recorded in #China. Most cases reported outside are in people with a travel history from 🇨🇳, or have been in contact with people who have been there. But there are some signs of person-to-person transmission outside 🇨🇳.

CBC reporting never claimed the two scientists were spies, or that they brought any version of the #coronavirus to the lab in Wuhan. But the story has spread. One blog post was shared more than 6,000 times on Facebook. The story even made its way onto TikTok. (3/11)
