1. Just so the record is clear. I used to watch @MSNBC all day. It's been off, with a few exceptions, for the past three days. When @MSNBC gets this obvious sociopath off its network, I will return. @POTUS @WhiteHouse @CNN
2. But in fairness, the @WhiteHouse #PressCorps is equally to blame. Can they answer these questions? Have they asked and not gotten a response?

A. On January 22, I called this a Pandemic in my post. When did @RealDonaldTrump receive a @ODNIgov briefing where word "pandemic"
3.
was used in relation to the #WuhanOutbreak?

B. Where are the documents that evidence what steps the @WhiteHouse took to increase ventilator, hand-sanitizer and PPE production? What are the documents and who has them? Will you produce them or require citizens sue and seek?

This is my friend's post. She is also in #Wuhan. She told us a sad story(translated by me).The following is her post:
No where to get medical treatment...
Sorrow.
Relative, classmate and friend got infected. Now it has been 3 cases around me, one after another. I can't imagine how many people in Wuhan are suffering. Now I understand those who escaped from Wuhan. Indeed, they will spread the...
...#coronavirus to other places. However, each individual wants to LIVE. They are highly valued out of Wuhan, but people who stay, can only despair.

I am not sure if I am a pragmatist or a pessimist but, I think for every externally reported Chinese number, it should be multiplied by 20 and that is likely the more realistic number of cases in any Chinese jurisdiction.

Therefore, Wuhan's number in this article is closer to 146,000 cases.

Being that they built a 1000 bed hospital in 7 days...well, I think they have a far more serious problem than they are admitting.

I wouldn't want to be in that new hospital either.
And what is the point to the masks? They are not micron quality filtration. They are theatrics in my opinion. They will not really provide protection other than to keep your cough or sneeze vapor from going quite as far.

More on #WuhanCoronavirus - Throughout Tuesday, 1459 new cases were added, including 263 cases with severe symptoms. Additionally, 26 new death were recorded, including the latest non-#Hubei one coming from Henan province. There are also 3284 new suspected cases.
Meanwhile, Malaysia added 3 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 7. Two of the new cases are Chinese nationals, one is a 4-year-old girl and the other one a 52-year-old man. The third one is a Singaporean, whose father-in-law has also been infected.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in sent a letter to #China yesterday to praise #Beijing’s timely actions to control #WuhanOutbreak and hope the epidemic gets contained soon. Seoul plans to send 2 million masks and 100,000 protective clothing to #China by plane.

This story is the result of many late-night calls with despairing people in Wuhan over the past week. @ywchen1 and I spoke to well over a dozen patients, experts, govt & hospital sources to pull together this story on the early days of #WuhanCoronavirus. reuters.com/article/us-chi…
It focuses on a crucial gap early in the outbreak when no new cases were tested or reported in China, even as countries abroad began confirming cases. Wuhan hospitals didn’t have testing kits until the 16th. Many early patients weren’t tested until the 20th or later.
Relatives of patients and healthcare workers said a slow, multi-level bureaucracy made quick reporting impossible, and noted that deaths in #Wuhan have very likely been under-reported

Data thread🧵

Based on recent studies, transmission rate for the new #coronarovirus is currently around 2.6 (a factor referred to as its R0).

That means each infected person is likely to infect 2-3 additional people.

1/x
Here is what an R0 of 2.6 looks like graphically in terms of growth rate (the number of people to whom the virus spreads):

The 2.6 R0 estimate for the new #coronarovirus comes from this study by epidemiologists in London, and it correlates closely with two other estimates I’ve seen.

The reports are available in PDF form in English and Mandarin.

A short thread on the #CoronavirusOutbreak #WuhanOutbreak

In Beijing from 2002-04, the SARS virus had escaped and infected 8k people.

China decided that we need labs to study these viruses to fight them as and when they occur.
The plan was to build 5-7 Biolabs.

This is the first lab installed and was supposed to be maximum safety.

1st lab in the country to meet BSL-4 standards. There are 54 others in the world.
The Wuhan lab housed viruses such as SARS, pandemic influenza virus and Ebola.

US scientists in 2017 warned multiple times of the dangers of doing this process.

The virus now apparently "escaped" to a fish market 20 miles from it. This is one argument

NEW PAPER. As #CoronavirusOutbreak spreads, China responds, and @WHO determines that it will not invoke emergency tools, pleased to publish @Nonstopdoc and our team at Security and Global Health Project's new research. Welcome to wonkworld and follow along. @Kennedy_School 1/
Security is as much about the threat itself as it it about the challenges in responding to it. It is why, from the homeland security perspective, the worries we have tend to be those that are not easily addressed by traditional state-to-state solutions (war, diplomacy, etc). 2/
The 4 major ones we focus on for homeland security -- terrorism, cyber, climate change and pandemics -- are all borderless threats. They are most often created and impact across traditional governance rules and national boundaries. They are not resolved by chain of command. 3/
