I'm an atheist. No, I don't mean about god. I mean about things like "toilet paper hoarding". I don't believe it's a thing, and thus, every time I see it mention, the entire thread of the argument crumbles.
Instead, I believe in the law of Supply and Demand. It's like the Jedi Force that the surrounds us and binds us together in the Economy. One plausible explanation is for the disappearance of toilet paper is Demand. The other explanation is lack of Supply.
All retail products have seen a jump in Demand recently. For some products, there is more slack in the system, and thus, Supply keeps up with Demand, and there's enough product to keep on the shelves. Other products have a Supply problem.
Toilet paper has a Supply problem. It is the bulkiest product you buy, in terms of volume-per-dollar. This means it occupies relatively little space on the retail shelves, little warehouse space at distributors, and is not shipped long distances.
Somewhere close by is a paper products mill that's spitting it out as fast as they can. They can't speed up Supply. Well, they could, by hiring more workers and investing in more equipment, but why would they?
Once everyone has stocked up, Demand will go back to normal, actually, a little below normal. Thus, any investment in increased capacity is wasted. So all they can do is add a little overtime and defer some maintenance downtime, which doesn't add a lot of Supply to the system.
So when your entire punditquackery depends upon "toilet paper hoarding" being true, well, I kinda dismiss your entire argument.
