Apart from the utter cruelty, #MPP hearings continuing is illogical FROM A CONSERVATIVE POINT OF VIEW. It means forcing ppl living in unsanitary conditions to enter US *repeatedly*-CBP agents, ICE lawyers & contractors, & court Judges/staff all risk exposure to #coronavirus 1/ 
No social distancing in a CBP holding cell. Small cells of cinderblock & metal. The cold temperatures *may* reduce contagion (CBP justification) BUT they also weaken asylum-seekers immune systems & make them more susceptible to the virus, making them better vectors. Exposed. 2/
Asylum-seekers are then transported to court in packed vans by ICE contractors. They’re unionized here in El Paso, & it’s a well-paying, steady job. Means many of the contractors are older & have been on the job for years. Many senior citizens. Many military veterans. Exposed. 3/
In court, no room for social distancing. Court benches packed with people. Business as usual. Some court staff senior citizens. All have family members they care about at home; children (no school!), spouses, perhaps elderly relatives. Same for ICE attorneys & judges. Exposed. 4/
Many private immigration attorneys are boycotting court. They have to think about their own health & the health of their loved ones. They request telephonic hearings, but never hear back from the exhausted court staff. Ethical obligations & moral compass compel them. Exposed. 5/
After court, back to contractor vans & back to CBP holding cells. Eventually, Mexican immigration (INM) comes to pick people up. Their policy is to refuse anyone who is sick, & they are strengthening controls around #coronavirus. Means more time in CBP holding cells. Exposed. 6/
Then it’s right back to the same unsanitary living conditions in Mexico. The whole thing repeats itself the next day. This is absurd. For everyone. This is not a “liberal” point of view. This is plainly illogical. This is a public health disaster. This is utterly shocking. 7/
The #MPP courts MUST be cancelled. Immediately. Instead, create an orderly process whereby asylum-seekers can be paroled into the country to self-quarantine with their families., #SafeAndTogether. The status quo is absurd. This cannot be allowed to continue. #EndMPP. 8/8
