Today, a public defender in East Oregon refused to allow the trial of her client to go on. She was unable to visit him in jail. One of the witnesses had been exposed to Corona. She put her foot down facing the threat of contempt. Right won.
Public defender in NYC. Think about how worried you are for loved ones who have access to hand sanitizer, can choose to social distance. Then imagine having a loved one locked up. No sanitizer. Packed in. No way out. Secondary trauma of family members.
NYC defender. Colleague sent home after person stuck in holding cells behind court at first appearances (arraignment) exhibiting flu symptoms. Others stuck in close quarters. Why is this still happening?
