THREAD: Possible Solutions to Help Nigeria Beat COVID-19 pandemic.
As it is we have a serious problem on our hands in Nigeria and it is up to each and every one of us to find innovative solutions to all the existing & foreseeable problems as a result of this pandemic. @NCDCgov
Nigeria is the country with the largest population in Africa and the 7th largest population in the world. 87 million Nigerians are in abject poverty. Our situation is dynamic and complex.@DrJoeAbah
The solutions that were utilized in China and other developed countries will not work here if we just copy and paste. It has been estimated that about 85% of the urban population live in single rooms, often with eight to twelve persons per room. @NGRPresident
Outbreaks of disease are more frequent and more severe when the population density is high. @WHO A possible solution to this is the immediate provision of shipping container housing developments across the nation.
Shipping container homes on an average takes a couple of weeks or months to build and it is about 20-40% faster to build in comparison to RCC. They are also more cost effective. @NigeriaGov see more here;

Our Healthcare challenge: the numbers of our hospitals, testing facilities and medical personnel are insufficient.
A suggestion was made on the house floor to release prisoners into the community and convert these facilities into hospitals. I do not fully grasp this reasoning.
It would only go further to increase our already high crime rate and cause mayhem. What I suggest can be done, is to utilize the hostel facilities for all schools (from public to private) that are currently vacant as our children are at home due to this pandemic. @followlasg
Can these hostels, like that of Covenant University which has a capacity to house 9,150 patients, be equipped with PPE, oxygen tanks, ventilators and hospital beds? @CUHEBRON @seyiamakinde
Can our medical doctors currently posted to be teachers for National Youth Service in some states be added to our insufficient medical staff?@Mochievous @nysc_ng @AishaYesufu @Fmohnigeria
There is also a challenge of poor power supply, we do not produce enough electricity from the grid. For those who have to work from home during this period, the power shortages can make this impossible and threaten their means of livelihood. @IkejaElectric
Can off-grid renewable energy solutions like solar power and inverters be made scalable and affordable for individual homes? Can a pay-as-you go option be made available? Or monthly deductible fee so the effect of the initial cost of acquiring these solutions not be felt badly?
Another problem that can arise is food shortage. I would advise anyone who can, to plant a sustainable garden at your backyard and patronise online food delivery services. If your mom sells foodstuffs and provisions, help take her business digital. @Jumia @UnclePamilerin
Nigerians should have the option of having these things delivered to their houses directly, with deliverymen and women wearing hamzat suits to reduce the risk of exposure and infection. @followlasg
Lastly, our leaders; political, institutional and religious, all need to take this seriously. There is a high illiteracy level in Nigeria and these people take your opinions as fact. Use your position of influence to pass accurate information, do not prey on people’s fears.
This pandemic is not a joke and it is not something to be overlooked. The cost of inaction will be too great. Now is the time to speak up and act.
This thread is not exhaustive and there are other factors that will come in play.
If you are a concerned Nigerian citizen please add some additional solutions that can help. @segalink @aproko_doctor
@OgbeniDipo
To our medical personnel,risking their lives on a daily basis, irrespective of poor working conditions and large workloads. Thank you. You are the true heroes. #COVIDー19 #COVID19NIGERIA
