#BREAKING Edelstein resigns as Knesset Speaker
Edelstein says the Supreme Court's decision this week "is not based on the language of the law but on a one-sided extreme interpretation" and is "destroying the Knesset's work...undermining the foundations of Israeli democracy."
"I will not let Israel deteriorate into anarchy," Edelstein says. "I will not be part of a civil war. I will act in the spirit of Menachem Begin, who in the days of the Altalena prevented civil war...We must unite."

And then he quit.
Edelstein didn't shut the Knesset down for 5 days. The Knesset shuts itself down for 4 days of every week. No one - not even Blue and White - asked for the Knesset to function on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. At most, he ended today's meeting a few hours early.
Also, the fact that the resignation takes 48 hours to go into effect isn't something Edelstein just made up. That's the norm in the Knesset.

So basically, even if Edelstein quit yesterday or on Monday night it wouldn't have made a difference.
So, OK, you can be annoyed\outraged that the Knesset isn't going to do anything until next week, but people acting like this is something unique to right now and to Edelstein is hackery.
Knesset Legal Adviser says Edelstein still has to call a meeting today to vote on his ouster and replacement, in accordance with the Supreme Court's order. Edelstein refuses.
And yes, that part is unique and - in my opinion - worrying.
