[Thread] 1/ This is on the Dyson vs Gtech debate, which centres around why Dyson got all the patriotic credit (Tory donor) for designing a ventilator to tackle #Corona when British company Gtech had launched a protype a few weeks ago. I searched for the phrase "gtech" Or "dyson" 
2/ and downloaded the subsequent tweets/interactions. I got around 47000. I divided these into tweets that mentioned Gtech or Dyson or both Gtech and Dyson. As you can see, 88% mentioned dyson only, with 3% only mentioned Gtech, and 6% mentioning both. Clearly that doesn't give
3/ us much context but already shows how Dyson-related news is dominating the Twitter discussion. The most popular tweet mentioning Dyson was by the Brexit @TiceRichard - clearly a classy guy using this as opportunity to erm, enTICE his followers. It has 16.9kRTs
4/ The most popular tweet casting cynicism on the Dyson deal was that by @ScaramangaJoe , which got about 6.9k RTs. Not as enTICING as Richard's tweet apparently (ok I'll stop).. However a lot of tweets mentioning Dyson were also cynical of the deal. But what I found weird is
5/ the most cohesive community tied by a singular theme who retweeted Tice's tweet were once again pro-Trump or right wing conspiracy accounts. 808 out of the 9402 with bios in my sample had either Qanon, MAGA, or WWGW1A . Indeed, MAGA was the fourth most common bio term
6/ way ahead of Brexit - which is funny considering it was tweeted by a Brexit MP. Also fan was the most popular word, which seems to have usurped 'love' in terms of most popular biographical descriptions in recent analysis.
7/ I should download those who retweeted @ScaramangaJoe 's critical tweet to see if they are all pro EU - see if we've got ourselves a game of partisan hoover politics. I'm still prodding the data but a few caveats, because the Dyson story broke yesterday my data collection
8/ method will almost certainly distort the amount of dyson only tweets as opposed to Gtech - which was announced (i believe with less fanfare) about 10 days ago. Nonetheless, gtech aside, I was curious about why MAGA accounts are celebrating Dyson...

10/ Ok as predicted, apart from the generic 'fan, love' terms, the most cohesive and identifiable political community retweeting @ScaramangaJoe had 'socialist' or 'european' in their bios. Could it be that's because lefties and pro Europeans are more likely to follow Joe and
11/ right wing MAGAs are more likely to follow @TiceRichard ? It's possible, and would make sense. If so, it highlights how Twitter perhaps reinforces our existing views and promotes polarisation rather than cross-'class' encounters. On the other hand, MAGA accounts
12/ have historically been suspicious, at least in my opinion. It wouldn't surprise me too if a lot of the pro-European accounts were also suspect, generating polarisation and discord. A lot of us are unpleasant people too, so it could also just be that.
