Went to the plant nursery 2 weeks ago, before CA was put on lockdown.
Here’s some baby kale I started from seeds & some lettuce & tomatoes I bought/transplanted.
Missing my nyc home, but thankful hubs & I have been in CA since Xmas. @thespybrief
Romaine lettuce, neat.
This is the stump of a romaine lettuce I had in the fridge. It was pale yellow 5 days ago when I plopped it in a rocks glass with 2 fingers of water & set it in the window. Regrowth has begun! Time for this puppy to go into some dirt.
This is the lettuce stump that my husband stuck in water yesterday. I will change the water daily and check for regrowth, if regrowth happens then it will get potted too!
The 5-day-soak romaine, neat, in dirt now. I use a mix of black gold + condensed coconut coir growing medium. Rocks at the bottom for drainage.
Rinsed out eggshells, drainage holes poked in bottom. Dirt inside, then marigold seeds. Eggshells are good for gardens, they add calcium to the soil. If these marigold start, I’ll crush the eggshells and use them as mulch when I transplant. Marigolds are natural pest repellants.
We eat a lot of citrus in this house. Worms don’t like citrus peels so I don’t put them in my compost. I let them dry out and then use them as mulch.
