Coronavirus in sewage foreshadowed outbreak in Dutch city | News | DW | 31.03.2020

Gertjan Medema and colleagues at the KWR Water Research Institute in Nieuwegein tested wastewater in 7 Dutch cities as well as the wastewater of Amsterdam Schiphol airport. dw.com/en/coronavirus…
“Samples taken from a wastewater plant in Amersfoort, near Utrecht, show that the virus was present in the sewage on March 5, weeks before any cases were reported in the city. The first cases in the Netherlands were confirmed on February 27”
Sewage testing has been used to detect poliovirus and drug prevalence in the past.

I can see that this system might be used, esp early on, to target testing and tracing.

Is it possible to use the same system to estimate concentration in the population too?

Anyone know?
