Designing learning content for #COVID19? In a paper published last yr, I wrote a tried & tested model for creating content appealing to various audience types. Perfect for educators now to help reach family audiences. Some FREE advice follows (DM/tweet me for paper) 1/
What do family audiences want right now? My feeling is entertainment and some education. Keep it light touch, playful and not too onerous or time consuming. Children are loving anything that makes them laugh, imagine or be silly vicarously through others.
Media? YT & YT Kids is the way to go right now. In downtime, kids WILL be on tablets. Target parents with content on SM platforms and hope that they show it to their kids. SOME parents will have the energy to craft or do experiments, deliver this content through clear, short vids
Time? Keep it short, 5 mins max! YT vids need 2 be punchy, clear and limited on take home messages. Don't overload with 2 much technical content or jargon. Go for amazing unexpected facts and surprising narratives. Look at the success of @CBeebiesHQ presenters like @maddiemoate
I have seen amazing efforts promising so much. Poor sound, technical jargon, lack of scripting and not considering audience needs or learning outcomes has meant SO MANY lost opportunities. #Scicomm and #learning is a skill that takes years & years to develop and master.

With every passing day the need for mass testing for #covid becomes more urgent.Let me explain.What we have done now through the lockdown is bought time & reduced the risk of spread.This is akin to putting a patient on a ventilator.Ventilation will not cure but will give time to

How bad will this get – it depends. If we act now ( #socialdistancing), limited interaction we can slow the spread. With vaccines being trialed, theres hope we can quell this, but realistically only toward end of the year (trials, testing, distribution, administration) /3

As a Hong Konger, I continue to be baffled by the public response in Europe. Though most are concerned, many are still acting like it's nbd. HK was in the news because of #COVIDー19 a month ago. There are travel advisories against HK. Peopled abroad asked me about it. 1/
There are STILL only ~130 cases in Hong Kong. There are now 798 cases in the UK & ppl are still out & about as if nothing is wrong. When I was in Milan (at a time when there were 3,000 cases), I was shocked at the lack of concern, including from police & health workers. 2/
When I was in Milan, I didn't understand how relaxed people were, and I felt like I was the crazy one. I kept trying to convey my disbelief and the severity of the situation to my colleagues, and how worried it made me for Italy – and Europe. 3/
