The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are felt globally and by all kinds of people. But they aren’t landing equally across the population here in the US.

@EquisResearch reviewed recent public polling to see how Latinos are faring. THREAD (1/)
1. On key economic questions Latinos report higher levels of concern and hardship at this early stage. 2/
2. Latinos also appear to be taking public health warnings to heart, expressing less comfort being in public places.

Notice Latino discomfort with public venues extends to the thought of polling places. Which is why so many are talking about alternatives to in-person voting 3/
A word of caution: these polls include relatively small sample sizes, ranging from 100 to 193 Hispanic interviews nationally (and, in some cases, the sizes aren’t even reported). 4/
These samples are generally large enough to mention but not large enough to capture differences within this very diverse electorate. (For comparison, Equis commissions polls that are of at least 400 interviews in a STATE.) 5/
We clearly need better racial and ethnic data to better pinpoint disparities. These charts validate the need to track the disparate impacts not only of the health crisis but of the economic crisis to follow. 6/
During the last recession, Latino men took a big hit, with their unemployment rate going up to as high as 15%. What demographic differences will emerge in these crises? 7/
According to @PewHispanic we already we see signs that it is the young and those without a college education, groups highly represented in the Latinx community, who are some of the most impacted.

At Equis we continue to focus on this fall’s election. The stakes just grow and grow. Stay tuned for more from us on Latino voters in this moment. (/FIN)
