Why are people still fighting about the RE3 remake? Jill's original costume was dumb because it was a product of the time. I don't have issues with modernizing the look. I have issues with how boring they made it. There's nothing distinct or immediately recognizable.
To defend gamers unhappy with the reality boring change, Jill Valentine has never been a fap material character. She's waifu territory. So the assumptions some critics are making about the relationship between the character and her fans is just wrong.
You're talking about a character from a time where most clothes fit like skin because graphics capabilities couldn't do layers well. Her clothes were trendy and modern at the time. Nineties fashion was dumb.
But this new outfit is also dumb. Layered tank tops ALWAYS roll up. Her pants are too low to stay up while running. This is still a sexy time character being praised as somehow more realistic. I maintain this is more insidious because of the claim this unrealism is achievable 
I do think the actress they cast is interesting looking, but she's still glamorous, beautiful, and lacking proper protective equipment. Why would you fight zombies with that much exposed skin? In the original, it was SO dumb that no one cared. Now, claims of realism are foolish
Personally I prefer games that are so absurd that there's no pressure to conform to the beauty standards set in the game. When you start telling girls that this is what special forces look like on a daily basis, you start setting an impossible standard.
Fortunately kids today have role models of all shapes, sizes, and colors. It's not a single look that forces conformity. But again, look at the lighting on this promo shot. It's on her chest, not her face. The image guides you to look at her boobs. The necklace points you too.
Now, is there anything wrong with looking at boobs? No. There is something wrong with insisting that remake Jill is better for women just because she's more boring looking. I'm so tired of people spewing their own self esteem issues and claiming it's feminism.
Basically claiming increased realism here comes with a whole host of problems. It's better to acknowledge that this is still fantasy with beauty myth intact, redesigned for bland, fearful modern tastes. It's not better for women. It's a lateral move.
