The new quarantine obligation for returnees from foreign corona risk areas should apply from November 8th. The details are regulated by a sample quarantine ordinance,
which the federal cabinet passed in the morning and which is intended to represent a "joint working aid for all countries", as government spokesman Steffen Seibert said. The concrete implementation lies with the federal states, travelers must observe their respective rules.
Originally, the innovations should come as early as October 15th. "Our common goal is to prevent new sources of infection in Germany by entering Germany," said Seibert.
"And that is why we always adhere to the obligation that someone enters into self-isolation after entering from risk areas."
According to Seibert, anyone who has stayed in a country or region classified as a risk area by the Robert Koch Institute in the ten days prior to entry must be quarantined for ten days immediately upon return. He also has to report to the health department.
