The highly contagious coronavirus mutant B.1.1.7 has been detected in a doctor's office employee in Düsseldorf who had contact with up to 450 people. The city announced on Saturday.
The follow-up of the contact persons is in full swing. The employee is said to have continued working despite symptoms of illness. The doctor's office was closed.
Employees in the health department are currently trying to reach all contact persons, especially patients in the practice, promptly by phone, the city said. As a precaution, a quarantine is being ordered for all contact persons of the medical staff.
The public order office and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians were informed. An evaluation of the contact persons is expected on Monday at the earliest.

Thousands of people took to the streets in Tunisia's capital Tunis today to protest for democracy. Masses of supporters of the Islamic conservative Ennahda, the strongest party in Tunisia, have gathered in Tunis for one of the largest protests in years.
They called for "national unity" and "political stability," as the state agency TAP reported. The party had called for a "march in defense of democratic institutions" today. The protests initially remained peaceful.
The background to the protest is a worsening political crisis in the country. President Kais Saied refuses to agree to a cabinet reshuffle proposed by Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi. Parliament has already approved this.
