Welcome to the weekend and to Day 38 of the Kremlin war on #Ukraine.
More morale problems for Russia with irradiated troops, heavy losses amid the withdrawal from #Kyiv and still question marks over the bombing of the fuel depot on Russian soil.
All the news, all day, in this🧵
I am still gathering news and data on the Russian attacks on #Ukraine during the night.
#Kharkiv again looks to be worst hit, with endless explosions heard. Some fires burn - this one video submitted. Remember exact locations cannot be revealed, hence the blurring
British intelligence highlights the two recent incidents in #Belgorod, the Russian city close to the border with Ukraine.
Although Ukraine denied the attacks, UK wouldn't highlight this unless it believed they did it, so I bow to the military intel.
Dnipro, Odesa, Kryvyi Rih, Kharkiv have all come under attack during the night so far.
#Odessa: claims all missiles were shot down. #KryvyiRih: hit by rockets and a gas station is ablaze #Dnipro: fires burn #Kharkiv - listen to the constant bombardment:
#Odesa - CNN is now reporting conflicting sources and news.
Ed Lavendera, on the ground in #Odessa reports "one military official says Russia missed its targets, but another military official says there are some wounded on the ground."
Incidentally I know a big uptick in Russian bots/trolls because of hashtag abuse
Take a look at the "suggestions" Twitter provides.
Trolls deliberately misspell hashtags to get you to click the wrong one and avoid a # trending.
examples:
StopRussianAgression and StandWithUkriane
Weaponry not my strong point, so I was pleased to see someone identify this Russian kit seized by #Ukraine's army near #Kharkiv.
#Russia's twitchy leaders have now even banned a Communist publication!
The oldest "red" newspaper, Krasnoe Znamya is the latest to fall foul of Russian censors and have its' website blocked. The specific reason is still unknown.
Meanwhile a 55 year old teacher has been prosecuted after being denounced by her 8th grade pupils.
Students asked why they couldn't go to international competitions. Irina Gen replied "any dissent is considered a thought crime... we are a pariah country"
The Pope has said he is considering a trip to #Ukraine
The Pontiff is currently in Malta, but has been invited to #Kyiv by church leaders.
The illegal "Donetsk People's Republic", Putin's puppet in #Ukraine, has decided that all property belonging to Ukraine within Donetsk region is now theirs in law.
Presidential adviser in #Ukraine does not expect a long war. #Russia's already seen more soldiers killed than in a decade in #Afghanistan war
However #Ukraine needs more weaponry and air support quickly to be able to succeed. It could still go either way
Yet another mayor in #Ukraine is feared kidnapped by #Russia.
Nikolai Rizak of Tavriisk has not been seen or heard of since yesterday. That's in occupied #Kherson Oblast, near Nova Kakhovka.
Seven Humanitarian Corridors are supposed to be open today. Most importantly I guess is out of #Mariupol'
Just as important to see if the terrorists let any aid INTO the city. Even aside from fighters there are so many old and sick people who just cannot leave the city.
⚡️Breaking⚡️
Russian soldiers open fire on peaceful rally in occupied #Enerhodar.
It's not known yet if there are injuries.
The live gunshots MAY have been in the air while smoke and stun grenades were thrown into the crowds.
News still emerging about the Russian attacks in #Ukraine in the early hours of this morning
Confirmation that a missile strike hit infrastructure in #Poltava, while in #Kremenchuk a number of missiles landed hitting a variety of buildings including one residential it's reported
#Ukraine's army has noted, and warned, of troop activity in #Transnistria, Russia's unrecognised puppet "state" in #Moldova
“The redeployment of Russian troops was noted in order to prepare for battle readiness for a possible military operation against Ukraine” said a spokesman
Another video from the awful scenes in #Enerhodar.
A peaceful patriotic rally violently broken up by #Russia's goons.
A Belarus resistance channel posted this video which it says shows Russian troops posting stolen goods back home.
This is the office of courier company CDEK in Mazyr in Belarus where military trucks regularly pull up and send off clothes, mobile phones, electronics from #Ukraine
Communications in #Enerhodar have been cut by authorities. Residents report mobile phone being without signal and landlines and wired internet also not working.
A regular tactic to hide atrocities and/or prevent a regrouping of protesters.
Russian troops fled, with one reportedly already having died from, and over 20 others sick with, radiation poisoning.
A Ukrainian photographer and documentary maker is the latest journalist to die in #PutinsWar.
Maks Levin's body was found yesterday after Russian troops retreated from #Kyiv region. The 40 year old had worked with BBC, Reuters and Wall Street Journal.
#Ukraine spokesman says soon the army will sweep all the territory in #Kyiv oblast up to the border with #Belarus.
The way Russian troops had dug trenches their tactic was to hold a line with reduced numbers to tie up Kyiv troops. But defeat here means 🇺🇦 can redeploy soldiers.
The number killed in one of the single-most deadly attacks this week, has risen to 35.
The #Mykolaiv/#Nikolaev regional administration was struck with a missile during office hours. 33 bodies were recovered from the rubble, two more died in hospital.
Refugees are still crossing the borders to neighbouring countries, but now almost as many are returning - especially to #Kyiv.
Yesterday 32,000 left Ukraine but 23,000 returned.
I've just seen a 1st witness statement from a protester at #Enerhodar today where Russians opened fire to disperse a rally
This man says "they opened fire. I was taken to the police department and they told me it was better if I did not attend rallies."
Still no word on injuries
#Enerhodar reports between 3 and 8 injured in the rally.
A street view of the attack by Russians on unarmed civilians in #Enerhodar.
Pro-Russia disinfo channels say "a riot was starting and the "peacekeepers" had to act to protect the public. No one was hurt and people went home."
This is lies. There was no riot. There are injured
Turkey says it is willing to allocate ships to help the evacuation of #Mariupol
This is how peaceful things were just before the attack by RosGvardia - Russian troops - in #Enerhodar, the occupied Ukrainian town.
No weapons, no trouble, a little singing as thousands started to show up for the protest rally. #StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
Nerves of steel needed to cross this "bridge" in #Sumy, north-east #Ukraine.
But when it's your only path to survival, worth the risk.
The only way ever to speak to Russian media is insisting interview is live and answer every question with "how can I answer that when you are deliberately murdering civilians, bombing hospitals and inflicting terror on a peaceful nation?"
Just before the outrage at #Enerhodar it's reported locals had left cuddly toys and other kids' stuff as a tribute to children killed in #PutinsWar.
Around 160 are now thought to have died as a direct result of the war. There could be many more.

This could be interesting...
2Anonymous" claims it's hacked a plant which repairs Russian military equipment.
But more useful could be info from the Russian Orthodox Church which they promise to release to journalists. Patriarch FSB must be praying now!
Of all the problems for people in #Kharkiv region - now a flood to contend with.
In #Sviatohirsk/#Svyatogorsk, bomb damage to a dam has caused the Seversky Donets river to overflow on to the streets.

They'd have had trouble sending that home by courier!
It seems Russian thieves, sorry troops, lost their booty and their lives trying to flee Ukraine
(see my earlier post about Russian soldiers in a courier office in Belarus)
Oops! Amid allegations of ill disciplined retreating Russian troops being drunk, there have been 6 accidents involving Russian military vehicles in 2 days around #Homel in #Belarus.
Two have seen Terrorist trucks overturned.
1/2 A few people have now written asking why I haven't shown the sickening videos from towns near Kyiv with bodies all over the roads.
I try not to post images/videos which are too graphic. Some auto play for instance and I don't wish children to be exposed to something which..
2/2 ..may upset them.
Also there's respect. These are all someone's sons/daughters or parents. It's not necessary, even in war, to show bodies which can be recognised.
So yesterday I posted a link to this report from the scene, where the BBC blurred faces
1/2 A lot of media are getting too excited about #Ukraine liberating lots of villages. Sky saying 30 more (most of which I reported yesterday actually), but the reality is there is no fighting, Russian troops have fled from all of #Kyiv region and much of west #Chernihiv..
2/2 While it's good for morale; people who can return to their properties, the war is just refocusing.
Russia has far more chance of success by attacking on limited fronts as they will now do in Donbas. The next 10 days critical.
If Russia succeeds it continues south then north
#Ukraine's 1996 gymnastics gold medalist Likiya Podkopaeva posts a heartbreaking story, a 'diary' of a 16 year old girl who lost everything in #Mariupol' including watching her mother die.
LOL. Russian TV was "forced" to stop transmission of the Bundesliga match between @BlackYellow and @RBLeipzig_EN after 12 minutes.
There must have been some yellow and blue on screen🇺🇦🤣
However @Bundesliga_EN shouldn't be allowing transmission anyway.
An Italian mercenary who was fighting against #Ukraine has been killed in #PutinsWar
46 year old Edi Ongaro from near Venice was part of the so called "Donetsk Republic" army.
An Italian gives his life for a fascist regime in an illegal invasion.
As expected all of #Kyiv region is officially free of #Russians.
Next stop for the northern division of #Ukraine's army is likely to be besieged #Chernihiv where there is likely to be stiff resistance from Russian troops bedded in
#Ukraine is buying 30 of these armoured ambulances.
Already #Russia accusing others what it does itself. Complaining Ukraine will covertly transport troops.
A regular tactic in Belarus 2020 where riot police in ambulances emerged to beat protesters
Russian trolls are also pushing the theory that some of the men in the recent prisoner exchange came back from Ukraine castrated.
There is zero proof offered and even Russian officials haven't raised any protest. Nonetheless not stopping useful idiots treating it as fact.
A meeting between Presidents @ZelenskyyUa and Putin may be edging closer.
Turkish President Erdogan called both leaders yesterday, saying he's ready to host the meeting.
A document is said to be close to completion for final discussion between Ukraine and Russia's heads of state
#Ukraine's army has been "mopping up" detritus left behind by the Russians in their scramble to flee #Kyiv oblast.
Some stuff is useful, some just scrap metal.
All recently liberated towns and villages in #Kyiv region are under a long curfew now, until Tuesday morning.
One main reason for this is the danger of mines which are littered across most settlements. Also reports Russians put explosives in electronic devices such as mobiles.
I'm reading so many "experts" and politicians expressing surprise and saying "this changes things" after seeing the horrors inflicted on civilians in NW Kyiv.
Anyone expressing surprise is showing their ignorance. It's no surprise to those of us warning about Putin for years.
Also, it was a month ago since we first highlighted reports of mass slaughter of civilians and a humanitarian disaster.
The next day I posted this as the first video emerged from one of the towns in the NW Kyiv region:
Day 37 of #Russia's war in #Ukraine and this is Friday's daily thread of news & developments.
First let's have a look at the UK govt's view of the situation today. Ukraine continues to make progress towards breaking the siege of #Chernihiv.
They also still edge towards #Kherson
Sometimes dark humour is the only way to cope when your neighbour has launches a totally unprovoked war on you...
Day 35 of #Russia's war of choice.
5 whole weeks of hatred, death and destruction.
For what?
Talks of peace, and "scaling back" yesterday were followed by missiles fired across #Ukraine at night.
All the news, and a few views of mine, in this thread⬇️
1/2 A few people write saying #Ukraine should compromise or #Ukraine should give up on NATO or Crimea or Donbas etc.
Let me remind you #Ukraine is neutral. It never invaded any country. It was never at war until Russia invaded (twice).
Any compromise is rewarding the aggressor
2/2 It's an old tactic.
Bully. Wage war. Demand unattainable amounts.
Appear to lower your demands and you've compromised! Is everyone stupid?
Please also remember Putin is a compulsive liar. He broke written agreements over Ukraine, he promised not to invade. Do not trust him!
We've already reached Day 34 of #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine.
It's the day when peace talks resume, but I'm guessing the attendees will be careful about cups of tea, chocolates or shaking hands after the nerve agent stories yesterday.
All war updates here⬇️ in real time:
Front lines haven't moved much for a week.
Russia's almost taken #Mariupol (see end of yday's thread).
But a little west #Ukraine troops advance towards trying to reclaim occupied #Kherson.
This post says Russians seem to be leaving the city all morning
Govt pledging most citizens won't be unduly affected
Secretary of the Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov says "it can be restricting traffic, additional transport checks, documents checks. These issues are preventive, so that the country remains calm."
