Day 52 since #Russia decided it would be fun to obliterate its neighbour. They're still trying.
No matter the human cost, Putin doesn't want peace; he never did.
#Ukraine army losses announced, another airport damaged overnight + top trolling from🇺🇦Defence, all in the daily🧵⬇️
I'll start with the news that President @ZelenskyyUa admitted #Ukraine's losses in the war for the first time.
He told CNN that 2,500-3,000 members of his armed forces had lost their lives and about 10,000 more injured.
Russia claimed 36,000 🇺🇦soldiers have been killed.
Intriguing news from #Mariupol where some more #Ukraine fighters have managed to break through a Russian line to hook up with the bulk of the remaining Resistance in the Azovstal complex.
Russia says almost all were killed, but I think over 100 made it: awaiting confirmation.
Russian rockets caused explosions in the suburbs of the city itself. Power/lights are out in some parts of Dnipro.
In #Mariupol', the Ukrainian mayor alleges local men are being forced to clear rubble.
TG chanel ukraina24tv reports Petro Andryushchenko's comments that the locals are promised payment by the occupying armies of Russia + DNR (DPR), but the payment turns out to be food.
#Kyiv's Mayor confirms the capital was hit by a missile in the night.
@Vitaliy_Klychko says it happened in residential Darnytskyi district but has not yet given details on damage or casualties.
Britain's SAS has resumed training #Ukraine's army in #Kyiv region.
@thetimes reports the training in operating equipment has occurred the last two weekends.
Ukraine media are also reporting the story now:
The only photos so far come from locals who know not to identify the site until the government says so.
Security cameras caught the moment a rocket landed in a residential street in #Kharkiv.
One woman, right at the start of the film here, had a very lucky escape as the bomb exploded next to a car.
#Ukraine's operational command in the south says more banned cluster munitions have been used in the last 24 hours. #Russia's managed to move the frontline in their favour a little in #Kherson region I believe, removing all hopes of the region's capital being imminently liberated
Tractors are not just useful for dragging home #Russia's abandoned equipment!
In the last six weeks 824 new graves appeared at the city's main cemetery.
The information came from London's Centre for Information Sustainability (CIR), after studying satellite imagery from @Planet
Protests resuming in the far eastern city of #Khabarovsk
@SOTA reports the guys in the first 2 photos were arrested (posters say "I'm not scared" and "Bucha - don't believe Kremlin propaganda")
The last pic shows a woman campaigning for the release of former governor Furgal
Remember the fire that caused the #Russia's flagship Moskva to sink? Definitely wasn't #Ukraine missiles right?
So how come ex Pres Medvedev is now blaming @elonmusk's Starlink satellites for helping guide missiles?
Next he'll be saying it's war: don't take tea with Putin Dima!
#Romania bans all Russian flagged ships form entering its ports from tomorrow.
In occupied #Enerhodar the invading army painted the town's name in #Russia's colours.
This is a city in #Zaporizhzhia oblast - NOT the Donbas region.
Can the fascists/apologists saying Russia "only wants the Donbas" finally agree Putin wants to obliterate all Ukrainian freedom
#Ukraine groups on Telegram have published photos of the bodies and passports of many #Russian soldiers.
They say a Battalion Tactical Group from Ichkeria, Chechnya, southern Russia, was beaten in #Donbas.
These the only photos I can publish. I can't verify authenticity or dates
#Putin really is getting paranoid now. He's signed a law forbidding equating what USSR and Nazi Germany did in WWII.
Writing "Putler" or reposting an innocent photo such as this is possibly still legal in #Russia, but it's always pleasurable to post such lovely street art again!
The refinery at #Lysychansk on fire after being hit by Russian shelling.
This is in #Luhansk region. It's proving tough for #Ukraine's defenders even before all the reinforcements arrive for Russia, but we also don't know how many🇺🇦 have been redeployed yet.
The wife of arrested oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk has called on the family of POWs @cossackgundi (Aiden Aslin) and Sean Pinner to put pressure on the British government.
Speaking only in Russian, Oksana Marchenko wants her husband to be swapped for the Brits in a prisoner deal.
Earlier I reported about #Romania closing its ports to Russian flagged ships from tomorrow and #Italy has just announced the same.
All Italian ports will be closed to Russian vessels, even ships that changed flag after 24 February, which was a loophole RU media identified.
Think how long ago MiG fighter jets were agreed to be delivered to #Ukraine. They never arrived.
It's possible the Ukrainians would have had a decisive advantage in the war by now had NATO and the EU not been so weak and nervous.
#Russia releases video of what it says are survivors of the #Moskva sinking in the Black Sea.
Very difficult to tell exactly, but maybe 100 people here. Turkey rescued 54, no others are thought to have been picked up: it's quite possible some of these sailors are not from Moskva
⚡️Breaking⚡️
#Russia claims it's shot down a #Ukrainian plane near #Odesa (#Odessa). They also believe the plane was full of weapons from EU and NATO countries.
When #Russia's troops seized the small city of #Melitopol' they stole 3 million UAH, equivalent to around $100,000.
This was cash to pay state benefits - #Ukraine managed to pay 95% of those benefits, but is now in negotiations with the occupiers to return the cash.
A mayor in #Sumy region says there is evidence #Russia's troops had chemical weapons during their campaign in north Ukraine.
#Trostyanets leader Yuriy Bova claims: "We found remnants of chemical weapons in the village of Bilka. Sarin and other substances. Ampoules were found."
So the end of another day. I'll finish Saturday with @ZelenskyyUa
You don't need to be able to understand Ukrainian to enjoy. He shows his motivation on his office desk. Photo of family, the cockerel he was gifted while with Boris Johnson and🇺🇦 flag which survived #Borodianka.

It's Good Friday - but little good about it as Day 51 of #Russia's war of choice on #Ukraine has started with some of the heaviest bombing seen since the start of the war.
All the news coming in this daily thread, updated in real time, so come on in...
The loudest explosions seem to have been in the village of #Vasilkiv which is about 40km (25 miles) south-west of the #Ukraine's capital city.
More from #Kyiv - the blasts could be seen lighting up the entire sky even if the main explosions were many miles away.
Brighter, louder then anything before: eye witnesses report walls shaking - perhaps the biggest warhead unleashed so far on #Ukraine in #Putin's war of choice
Congratulations to #Ukraine's people and its Armed Forces. Today is the 50th day of resistance since #Russia launched #PutinsWar.
And overnight a few smiles from Ukrainians.
Read all Thursday's important news and analysis in the daily thread⬇️
First, still no confirmation, but chat in #Kherson was alive with speculation #Ukraine may have yet again hit Russian aircraft at the by now legendary airfield "#Chornobaivka"
This was apparently filmed by a resident "looking towards the airfield"
Next to the news, confirmed by #Russia, that their huge missile cruiser "Moskva" (Moscow) is badly damaged.
#Ukraine says it fired two of its 'Neptune' missiles which hit the ship, thought to have over 500 crew on board.
But Russia claims there was a fire which ignited missiles
Day 48 of #Russia's "military operation" aka genocide of a peaceful neighbouring state.
This is Tuesday's thread with the news and analysis from #Ukraine and beyond.
The big question: have chemical weapons been used in Mariupol' overnight?
Read on...
There is no proof yet, and it's going to be almost impossible to get any, but #Ukraine troops in besieged #Mariupol' claim chemical weapons were dropped by drone onto the Azovstal plant
The first overseas acknowledgment of the allegation has come from UK
Monday. Day 47 of #Russia's illegal and dirty war on #Ukraine with more and more executed civilians being found and rape allegations piling up.
Overnight bombing raids and fighting in the east continued.
All the details in the daily 🧵 updated throughout the day
The attack on transport continues with more Russian missiles targeted on railways during the night.
The Head of Railways released only this photo, while admitting 5 locomotives had been damaged along with some tracks. Thankfully no deaths or injuries. Locations not revealed.
#Ukraine also has Intelligence saying #Russia will attack road connections soon too to further limit supply lines.
With Russia's army massed in the east and south near the Russian border (or the puppet states) in all cases, their supply lines are far easier than in 1st phase
#Russia's war on #Ukraine - this is the start of the daily thread.
Day 46 begins with both sides claiming they've inflicted significant losses on its opponent. That can only mean the war is hotting up significantly in the east.
Read on...
It's taken me quite a while this morning to log all the claims and counter claims.
#Ukraine says it destroyed a "large column of enemy equipment" heading towards #Izium in the #Kharkiv region.
No significant proof yet on either side; just one photo supposedly from #Izyum so far
1/2 Another nasty development yesterday evening was the reported use by #Russia of "parachute bombs" in #Kharkiv for the first time.
These are purely intended to kill civilians. Let me explain in the next tweet how/why:
It's Saturday. Day 45 of #Russia's apparent attempt to wipe #Ukraine and its people from the map.
There is no neutrality in such a conflict. If you pretend to be neutral you are condoning the targeting of civilians, the mass slaughter of women and kids.
Here's the daily🧵⬇️
There were far fewer air raid alarms across #Ukraine overnight.
Two people were injured in one Russian missile attack in #Poltava region.
"Infrastructure" was hit in Mirhorod according to authorities.
#Kharkiv had its usual bombardment last night - this is the usual "night music" there
Russian forces have what amounts to a partial blockade of #Ukraine's second city. More of the terrorist forces are gathering over the border with a renewed attempt to capture the city likely⬇️
