One of my unsung heroes of the war is #Ukraine's legendary rock star @s_vakarchuk who's spent so much time criss-crossing the country giving free, unannounced performances to keep spirits high.
Here the @okeanelzy frontman turned up in #Kyiv's main railway station
#Russia's losses remain steady.
The deaths are for the previous day, and any of the various overnight strikes in #Melitopol, #Luhansk etc. won't be added to this total yet.
10 drones shot down yesterday, which is above average and which I wrote about previously.
A previously little known #Ukraine Resistance group in #Crimea has claimed responsibility for the early morning burning of one of #Russia's military barracks on the occupied peninsula.
Nice meeting famous #Ukraine political expert @drotyk in #Kyiv region. Amazing tales told of his time under occupation as #Russia's troops built trenches next to him; his house still bears the bullet scars.
And he has some harsh words about Ukraine's economy and government
Last night in central #Kyiv filming for the next documentary.
Inspecting the Russian equipment on view in one of the central squares. A permanent reminder of when #Ukraine lost control of part of the capital region, before winning the battle for Kyiv.
Even subways are being transformed from dingy, unwelcoming passages. Take a look at this local art under #Khreshchatyk - the main thoroughfare of #Ukraine's capital
Occupied #Donetsk is again smoking.
In recent days there have been many rockets hitting the city.
But 2 separate army sources told me these are grads, and while #Ukraine does use them on the front line, Donetsk city is NOT in range. They are 100% convinced #Russia does this
2/2
Multiple hits in occupied #Donetsk, the biggest in the market area.
No word yet on casualties.
Is #Russia killing those it pretends to protect and why?
#Ukraine sources say to encourage voluntary, then enforced, mobilisation
If Russia stops fighting and leaves, there is no war.
If Ukraine stops fighting, there is no Ukraine.
This video from yesterday in #Avdiivka near front line. #Russia has been trying to make ground around here for weeks, with little change to the status quo. But slowly more and more towns and villages become empty shells in more than one sense.
"It feels like a zombie apocalypse. Koroleva Street -not a single house (remains). Is this how (your) people live? Here it is - the 'Russian World' in all it's glory"
So I'm still on the same train. 15 hours after boarding. No communication from staff sadly. Hours stood in the countryside with no wifi, phone signal and for a while the train lost light, heat and power.
We are approaching the #Poland border now.
I was able to take pretty pics!
Not had chance to read the news yet. But have seen the daily losses for #Russia increase significantly following the successful #HIMARS strikes on enemy bases in #Kadiivka and #Melitopol in particular.
Yesterday the #USA announced that #Russia and #Iran have made a deeper agreement.
Today the daily update from the #UK Defence Intelligence picks up on the matter:
The number of #Russia's soldiers remains quite high if you actually think about the waste, the grieving families. However the totals this week well down on the peak figures.
Hello and welcome to Day 289 of the inhumane war in #Ukraine.
My day started like this, no power, no WiFi, no signal... Then woken by the schoolboy error of leaving the light switch on, so at 03.45 here I am starting another daily thread documenting #Russia's crimes:
Mind you, Thursday ended like this with friends, so not all bad!
Also here's a pic I couldn't post yesterday, to give you an idea of how tricky it is to move around #Ukraine in winter with no street lights and compacted snow in some areas.
Questions should be asked in #Melbourne about who allowed this event to go ahead.
Thanks to @NMAsiaPac for alerting me to this, but the good news is the tickets were free and boycotting NAFO members have already booked them all!
It's Day 288 of #Russia's invasion of peaceful #Ukraine. Where once there were close ties, #Putin has ripped them apart and set his nation back years, maybe decades
Welcome to another daily thread, live from #Ukraine, I'll do what I can but it's difficult to be able to post much
At the start of Day 287 I crossed the border and I'm still on the train as the snow gets heavier and thicker.
If anyone wants to buy me a coffee I'd be very appreciative. Dyakuyu!
A fairly quiet night in #Ukraine - but as always if you need to catch up on yesterday's news, it's all in one handy place. Here's the start of yesterday's thread:
A warning that for the next few days the updates may be a little slower than normal, or go missing completely - dependent firstly on my travel and secondly on power/connection in #Ukraine.
Today is my first return since February.
Thanks to those who already sent good wishes
It's a special day in #Ukraine too - The Day of the Armed Forces.
There is literally a day for anything and everything (a Soviet relic), but today is very important, especially in current times
To all the heroes, helping the Armed Forces in any way - we salute you. #HeroiamSlava
