/ In software, a predictable product roadmap is a straight line to increasing churn. Competition is too fierce.
/ The best companies have a product strategy that is different AND is right. Hard line to balance and requires strong product delivery.
/ There is often a tendency to over-invest in sales during the growth phase, as it is quantitative and measureable.
/ There is a real danger in not pushing R&D hard enough, particularly as companies are also trying to show leverage and reduce burn.
/ LTV, CAC, & sales efficiency frameworks miss the value of new product in their formulation. It is indirect influence.
/ Very few companies (gaming?) are down to ascribing quantifiable value to product. This leads to difficulty in resource allocation plans.
/ In summary, give your eng and product teams a hug, as they make everything else work. Don't underinvest in them as you plan into 2017!
