1. Holy shit there are a lot of statues of Confederates in the U.S. Capitol.
2. Each state gets to send 2 statues to the Capitol for display. They're all listed here with brief bios: aoc.gov/the-national-s…
3. Of course, there's Robert E. Lee from Virginia: aoc.gov/art/national-s…

And Jeff Davis from Mississippi: aoc.gov/art/national-s…
4. Both Mississippi's statues are Confederates. In addition to Jeff Davis, there's Colonel James Zachariah George: aoc.gov/art/national-s…
5. Alabama's Joseph Wheeler graduated from West Point. Then he became a leader in the Confederate army. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
6. Florida's Edmund Kirby Smith was also a Confederate general. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
7. Louisiana's Edward Douglass White quit school to join the Confederate army. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
8. Zebulon Vance raised a band of Confederate troops in North Carolina called the "Rough and Ready Guards." aoc.gov/art/national-s…
9. The Vice President of the Confederacy is in the U.S. Capitol too, thanks to Georgia. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
10. One of South Carolina's statues is Wade Hampton, a plantation owner who financed Confederate arms. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
11. Bizarrely, even West Virginia sent a Confederate. And the whole point of West Virginia was to reject secession. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
12. West Virginia's other statue makes more sense. Francis Harrison Pierpont was a Virginia unionist leader. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
13. And it's not like they had to be Confederates just because their state seceded. See: Sam Houston of Texas. aoc.gov/art/national-s…
14. By my count, that's 10 Confederates out of 100 statues. Not counting the statue of John C. Calhoun, who died before the Civil War.
15. State lawmakers CAN change their state's statues in the U.S. Capitol. Good for Florida.
16. If you live in a state that's sending a Confederate statue to the U.S. Capitol, tell your GOVERNOR and STATE LEGISLATORS to change that.
17. Each state only gets 2 statues, but they can change them. Confederate statues take the place of someone else who could be honored.
18. Surely these states have someone else more worthy of a statue in the U.S. Capitol. Put them in, and get the Confederates out. (end)
19. Addendum: The states have more statues of Confederates in the U.S. Capitol (10) than women (9).
This is good.
