It's why most Russian immigrants I know gleefully supported Trump. And it's why Soviet immigrants in Israel are Netanyahu's base
Not only did/do Russian men object to Russian women having kids with black men as @Russian_Starr writes,
But those kids were then basically pariahs in Soviet society. Except for the few celebs...
And crude racism common among Russians isn't just a feature of regular folk in the middle of nowhere who've never seen a black person
People from major metropolitan area with PhDs will tell you shit like "why are you dating a black man? They white race is so much better"
(that was a verbatim quote from a woman I know in Saint Petersburg when I revealed that my partner is a person of color)
All this sounds v similar to America I realize. But I still feel like in the present cultural moment in America there's hope of beating it
I don't see any hope of that for Russia, even tho it's got a v ethically diverse population that's getting less white by the year
I think there was a moment when Black visionaries like Paul Robeson and Angela Davis tought liberation was more possible in the USSR than US
But in Russia they were treated like tokens in the geopolitical chess game. (Can't speak to personal friendship of course)
