As ever, the problem here is seeing the world as a giant debating chamber with no physical ramifications for its participants
Homes/workplaces are not raided&ppl deported back to warzones. Kids are not separated from parents. Asylum seekers not attacked at bus stops
Ofc @ProfBrianCox can enjoy the 'robust debate'. He doesn't have to deal with the repercussions. That messy stuff is for the rest of us.
It's amazing supposedly intelligent ppl can't see it, that we're not talking about little enders vs big enders but real ppl's lives & safety
As mainstream commentary gets more openly murderous (Hopkin's gunboats for cockroach migrants, Liddle's 'Why should whites live w/ ethnics?)
Intellectuals like Prof Cox think all communities should be forced to open their doors to those espousing the most murderous ideas
I bet the 5k dead in the Med last year didn't even factor into Cox's thinking. They're outside the debate chamber. He can't see them.
"How many more migrants should we let die in the Med? Should we leave them to drown or sink their boats? Let the debate begin!"
People like Cox claim to want debate. What they want (& get) is the right to be utterly callous to the sufferings of others.
As we see in US, free speech means declaring State of Emergency so a nazi can speak on campus&cherry pick which journos can talk to him
'Free speech' today is a Trojan horse for the far-right to sneak their ideas into every corner of society. Liberals like Cox are buying it.
And they put the rest of us in danger as they do it.
