I decided to take one for the team, and turned Fox on in the background just to hear how they handled today's Mueller updates.
They did discuss the Manafort scandal. But I think they think the scandal is that news of the indictment was leaked on Friday.
And then they finally got to Papadopoulos. To explain how his conviction is proof *the Trump campaign rebuffed any collusion with Russia.*
This footnote, Fox has informed its listeners, shows that there's no suggestion by Mueller that Trump did anything wrong.
Papadopoulos' emails and communications were all lawful and unconcerning, Fox explains. The only issue is that he misled the FBI.
Fox: 'No one from campaign actually attended any meetings this 30 year old tried to set up.' Ah, yes. He was just too young to know better.
Fox: The only thing interesting about GP plea is that Mueller is desperate to show his investigation hasn't gone too far from his real task.
Fox Anchor, to another: "You said there's no evidence of Mueller investigating Uranium One deal. That's not true, they are now w/ Podesta."
Fox: 'I understand Trump's frustration. Clinton has done SO MUCH wrong, and she will probably never meet justice in her lifetime.'
Fox: 'The Trump Campaign had the good sense to fire Manafort. He was lying to them.'
Fox, imploringly: "I bet Ty Cobb told Trump: Mr. President, I understand why you're frustrated, but *please* don't tweet about this."
They're not being subtle in their tone, or even their phrasing. Fox's plea is addressed to their only viewer that matters: Trump himself.
