Ok since you’re both in India, you’re talking about band 1. The Nexus 5X should definitely support it, but maybe the antenna is weak. #gHelp
The band situation is complicated. I see what you mean about 2G. Nexus 5X does the quad-band 2G I mentioned earlier, but not E-GSM band 8.
Ok, this is a little new to me, even though I have worked with cell models since 2005. The 900-MHz 2G “Band 8” in India isn’t supported.
Even though all the phones say “quad band”, I don’t know whether or not they support the exact range of the E-GSM-900 band vs. P-GSM-900.
Just hope the towers are within the range of the Europe/Asia 900 MHz EDGE 2G, I guess. They all do LTE Band 8. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequ…
So they all do 4G LTE on band 8, but neither Apple nor Google say anything about E-GSM 2G for Airtel India & Idea Cellular on “band 8.”
Long story short, your phone might just be too old to get coverage on either carrier, from my quick investigation. Not a software fix.
Even a less expensive but newer phone sold for your region will probably have a better 2G & 4G LTE experience. Band 8 GSM is new to me.
