Bankers were always going to get free movement. The immigration rules only sporadically apply to the rich.
And even where they do, those with money for lawyers or luxury of moving jobs, are always in an optimal position to work around them.
It's the poor who get shafted. Who are told they must chose between their wife or their country by spousal via rules.
Or who don't have the money to pay the astronomical fees for papers and are therefore blocked from a legal entitlement by virtue of their income.
And then, at bottom of the system, the detention estate. Britain's dirty secret, where we imprison the dirt poor, the marginalised & the mentally ill.
Almost any time a white middle class person finds themselves in there, there's a sudden media storm and they are soon released.
Anti-immigrant people on right and left love pretending immigration is a class issue - great for the wealthy, bad for the poor.
That is some kind of Bizarro mirror image bullshit. The reality is the immigration system, like drug laws, target & ruin the poor.
Rant over.
By the way, if you're interested in these issues do please watch The Golden Dream, kind of Loachian Mexican film.
I don't think a day goes by that I don't think about that film.
