In this thread I will post stuff from the book - "The Imperial Age of Kannauj" written by Shri KM Munshi.
It deals with the period of roughly 700-1000 CE and the tripartite struggle for supremacy btw Rashtrakutas, Pratiharas & Palas and the emergence of Kannauj as a power centre
It was an age of great achievement for Hindus. The all conquering Arabs were beaten back and Nepal was taken back from Tibetans. Rashtrakutas were based in the South, Pratiharas in North West and Palas in Bengal.
A little background. Area btw Haridwar and Unnao was called Aryavarta in post Vedic times, later on the name was used for entire Bharata and Madhyadesha was used for the original area(current state of UP).

"It is 25% O₂," she continued, confused.

"No," said the alien culturalist. "Territorial."

The onboard display screen showed a riot of scenes. The aliens observed the Earthlings closely, like Google or Facebook.

"What is everyone peering into?" asked the captain.

"It's called a smartphone, Orff," said the scientist.

"Primitive," said Orff, using his favorite word.

There were two great observatories in ancient India

Ujjain- Where the brightest minds gathered. Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara I & II, Vateshwara, all worked here

Mahodayapuram-Designed by Sankaranarayan~860AD, it boasted of many named instruments

But not one brick remains..
The Avanti observatory was the single most important institution in the history of science.

Everything from the first trigonometric tables to heliocentric periods to principles of latitude & longitude determination came from here.

The zero degree meridian passed though Ujjain.
With the path breaking results from Ujjain, Indian trade & agriculture thrived with accurate navigation & calendars.

Soon Arabs & Europeans acquired the techniques. Ujjain was destroyed and forgotten.

Only Maharaja Jai Singh II remembered. He rebuilt a small observatory in 1725

In 1528, Mir Baqi, one of Mughal king Babur's generals, destroyed a pre-existing temple of Rama and built a mosque called Babri Masjid (Babur's mosque) at the 'Ram Janmabhoomi' site in #Ayodhya
1672: Lal Das's Awadh-Vilasa describes the location of Ram Janmabhoomi without mentioning a temple. All travelers prior to this document mention ruins of a castle. #Ayodhya

The Bada Bagh is an impressive and beautiful area in honor of the Bhatti Dynasty of Rajput kings. There is a mesmerizing and interesting area in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, it is the Bada Bagh. which means a "big garden" , by the Maharaja Maharawal Jai Singh II, Batthi Dynasty.
The tank was to provide water, in the dry Thai desert, for the subjects of the Maharaja. A dam, and pillar were built too. After the tanks construction this patch of dry desert became a lush green oasis attracting animals too.
This was a beautiful flourishing area in contrast to the dry sands of the desert.

All the inhabitants that lived there were very pleased with the water tank, and the beautiful, and refreshing green oasis.
