We’re committed to publishing a report and sharing the results of what you've all told us, but we really want our sample to be as representative as possible.

So let’s think this through. Since we’re surveying people involved in the software dev lifecycle, 2/
we should look at the % of women in computing roles - according to @NCWIT it's about 25% ncwit.org/sites/default/…. Among Silicon Valley tech companies that publish data on this, their numbers tend to be more like 10-15% women in engineering right now (At GitLab, it's 9%.) 3/

This Day in Labor History: November 25, 1865. Mississippi institutes its notorious Black Codes, regulating the labor and behavior of freed slaves, reinstituting slavery in all but name. Let's talk about how we have to understand slavery and its aftermath as a labor system.
First, as I have said frequently in this series, we have to think about slavery primarily as a labor system. That was the whole point. Yes, it was about racial control. But that was a racial control for blacks to labor for whites for free and for eternity.
If we don't talk about slavery and its aftermath in terms of economics and work, we simply don't understand why it existed. And that then helps undermine black economic justice today, which happens all the time in how we strip economic demands from the struggle's history.

Did you know that a lot of autistic people have problems processing sensory input? Even leaving the house can be totally overwhelming as we are less tolerant of bright lights, strong smells, loud noises (or multiple noise sources), textures, motion etc. #ActuallyAutistic
If you’re meeting an autistic friend, try to meet somewhere quiet & calm. If you can make the effort to travel closer to us, that helps greatly as long journeys can be really difficult. On top of the sensory issues, we can be very anxious about planning. #ActuallyAutistic
