If you think you can be picky for the next few election cycles, you’re not paying attention. For nearly 40 years, the GOP has been in charge and tearing this country apart. There is no choice but to get rid of them going forward.
This does not mean I am in favor of a one-party system. it means that we already have a one-party system because the GOP is completely dysfunctional. And the only way to make them functional again is to make sure they lose everything for a while.
Those who think you can pick and choose which Democrats to support are delusional. And if you are already pushing Bernie or Biden for 2020, you are not astute, politically. We can’t even think about 2020 right now; we have to blunt the power of the GOP THIS YEAR.
I don’t know where some “political junkies” get the idea that democracy is about a smorgasbord of perfect candidates. there has never been a perfect candidate in the history of electoral politics.
We do not have the luxury of picking and choosing which Democrats are worthy of our support. The entire party must be supported and championed, at least for a while.
See, here’s the thing. You have your favorite progressive congresscritters, but you know what? If they’re not part of a caucus with at least 218 in the House and 60 in the Senate, they have zero power.
Once Democrats have 75 seats in the Senate and 325 in the House, THEN you can pick off a few. A FEW. You know, like 5-10. If you think you can pick off half the “Blue Dog Caucus” and maintain control, you’re not of this world.
The progressive movement is at a crossroads. Being liberals means nothing if we’re not also making sure the best available candidates get elected. And right now, all those candidates are Democrats. It’s time to get a clue.
One last thing; Bernie did NOT “come close” in 2016, so please spare me the power of the “progressive independent.”
Oh, yeah; and if you hate the “two party system” and think it’s too limited, well, too bad. You’ve had 50 years to create a third, fourth and fifth option and you’ve done exactly dick. STFU and support Democrats, or take up another hobby.
