Nigerian Army Loses Another Outstanding Soldier in Damoboa. "He is in the same league with Col. Abu Ali.""Capt. MM Hassan is a soldier's soldier." His colleagues pay tribute and local residents described him as "kind and humble."
The ongoing 'Operation Deep Punch,' the NA lost some personnel amongst whom is Capt MM Hassan of the artillery corps based in Damboa. He was a brave, disciplined and a highly motivated Officer, that earned him the title - Sarkin Yakin Damboa by colleagues and the civil populatn.
Capt Hassan was killed two days ago. His end is "being mourned all over the theatre" as he was always assigned "difficult tasks to different areas to assist soldiers." Military sources confirm the insurgents are witnessing "unprecedented pressure, with the operation Deep Punch."

The Nigerian government has shown unwillingness to use hindsight for the benefit of foresight to address the #BokoHaram/#ISWAP conflict. At every stop the insurgents seem more determined to kill than the government's determination to stop the killings.
The insurgents are no longer faceless as the previous Govt often said, their origins, locations and plans are known in the region. The civilian population of BH/ISWAP is more than the combatants. Therefore, Non military intervention is equally important as a military campaign.
Non military intervention does not mean dialogue with the insurgents, the prospects of a peace settlement in the #LakeChad is near impossible, at this stage. It is Nigerian govt that must dialogue with itself, to bring all its institutions to speed to complement the military.

My young life was mostly in the Barack. My Dad and his brother joined the Nigerian Army and saw active battle. The genesis was that mass purge in 1999, we are paying dearly for it. Very humiliating.

Lt. Lirfa Dashe was to wed last month. He'd bn in MNJTF since 2015. In March 2018, he was given off. 2 months later, in May, he was ordered back to frontlines. In July, he was killed in Jilli. He's 1 of 1,307 #Nigerian soldiers, victims of #BokoHaram buried in Maimalari Barracks

In the Great Wars of the colonial era, black soldiers were very expendable, their sacrifices air brushed from history & forgetable. It's not much changed - In #Nigeria's fights with insurgency, soldiers on the frontlines are still treated as expendable

It was an unusual setting. Late at night, everyone gathered round a bonfire. After receiving his rank, he was lifted high by excited, screaming soldiers. Its unusual to see such affection btw officers and soldiers.That was one of the things that stood out for Lt Col Abu-Ali...
Leading from the front, humble, compassionate, and valiant, he inspired confidence among his troops, small or mighty... They called him Sarkin Yaki- King of War.
